Initiatives of Change is a diverse, global network committed to building trust across the world's divides. It works on the principle that changes in people's motives, attitudes and behaviour are not only possible but are the only sure basis on which wider lasting change in society can be brought about. Aims and Objectives of IofC Initiatives of Change (IofC) is focussed around the interaction of people, whether few or many, in homes, small or large groups, personal encounters, training courses, and local or international conferences. For over 70 years IofC has brought people of diverse backgrounds and faiths together. It has provided a rallying point for individuals and teams to work for justice, healing and human development, based on personal change starting in their own lives. Current initiatives are aimed at: Healing the wounds of history that sustain cycles of revenge, especially where cultures and civilizations meet. Strengthening the moral and spiritual dimensions of democracy, so challenging selfish interests and corruption. Helping individuals and families to counter the climate of blame and selfishness with a culture of care and personal responsibility. Strengthening the motivation of care and moral commitment in economic life and thinking, in order to create jobs, correct economic and environmental imbalance, and tackle the root causes of poverty. Rebuilding a sense of community and hope in cities and tackling the causes of racial and communal discrimination. Forging networks among people from different cultures and faiths based on a shared commitment to work for reconciliation, justice, and peace.

Caux Challenge: Hair for Land
HOW TO TURN BACK MAN-MADE DESERTS AND FEED THE WORLD?
Each year the equivalent of three Switzerlands is lost due to desertification and drought in the ‘drylands’, the third of the Earth’s land surface that produces 44% of the world’s food. Millions there are being forced to move to more productive land, and this is a major cause of conflict.
But this land degradation can not only be halted. It can be reversed.
On Friday 15 July, the Caux Forum for Human Security will hold a full day event on Restoring Earth's degraded land - how to turn back man-made deserts and revive agricultural land.
Led by Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and Clare Short, former UK Secretary of State for International Development, the day will not only outline the issue, but work on strategies to heighten international attention and action on this crucial challenge.
But the Forum has no large funders. So, I'm raising funds for the participation of the day's speakers, including Yacouba Savadogo from Burkina Faso, whose work to restore lands has transformed the lives of thousands of people in his region, and now is told in the documentary ‘The Man who Stopped the Desert’.
MY CAUX CHALLENGE: SELL MY HAIR AT A WORTHY PRICE
Over the past few years my hair has got pretty long. About half a metre. The photo above was taken 3 years ago... and I haven't had a proper hair cut since.
So, I'm putting my hair to good use in the CAUX CHALLENGE.
My price per mm (milimeter) of hair: just £10.
What I raise, the equivalent hair is cut. So £2000 = 200mm.
The math: if I raise more than £5000 I shave my head.
Fast start: Mum's donated already. She's hoped for less hair for years. And then Destiny. Plus, Igor, Valerie and Jan who gave offline. Many thanks to each of you!
Through this Virgin Money Giving page, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Caux Forum via Initiatives of Change in the UK.
Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on behalf of Initiatives of Change (Registered in the UK as The Oxford Group), which is eligible for this.
I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations!
