Aspire
Aspire - supporting people with spinal cord injury. Aspire is a national charity providing practical support, funding and advice to people with spinal cord injuries in the UK and Ireland.
Back Up
Approximately 3 people every day have an accident or injury that results in permanent paralysis through damage to the spinal cord. Despite good medical progress there is still no cure. Paralysis is permanent. Over 40,000 people in the UK have a spinal cord injury (SCI), the majority of whom are wheelchair users. The Back-Up Trust is a small, dynamic and professional charity that runs a range of services for people with SCI as well as their friends, family and volunteers to encourage independence, self-confidence and motivation following a life changing injury.
Spinal Research
fighting paralysis ... and winning Spinal Research is the only UK-based charity dedicated to funding spinal injury research on an international scale.
Spinal Injuries Association
SIA is the national organisation of the UK's 40,000 spinal cord injured people. SIA provides a helpline, conducts research, campaigns and offers a peer support network, a link Scheme and a website. Promoting self-help through the sharing of experiences and advice, SIA believes that life needn't stop when you're paralysed.

Every eight hours…someone finds out they might never walk again. Every day, we are helping.  If you would like to help our campaign please donate here.  All funds will be split equally amongst the UK's principle spinal cord injury charities.  Thank you for your support.

Every eight hours someone in the UK becomes spinal cord injured.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating, life-changing event which happens in an instant and lasts a lifetime. Communication between the brain and the body is severed resulting in paralysis - the full or partial loss of movement and sensation below their level of injury.

But SCI is more than just paralysis: other vital bodily functions – such as bladder and bowel control, temperature regulation, sexual function and blood pressure – are affected, often leaving people dependent on others for day-to-day care. People with neck-level injuries frequently need a ventilator to breathe. The psychological impact of SCI on the person and their loved ones is also immense.

SCI can happen to anyone – the major causes are Road Traffic Accidents, falls and sporting injuries. It only takes a second, but the consequences are permanent for almost all those affected. There currently is no treatment for the condition and people who fully recover from it are incredibly rare. But life does go on after SCI: our campaign, fronted by the five major UK spinal cord injury charities, aims to raise awareness of this condition and the help which is available to those affected by SCI, their family, friends and carers.
