Initiatives of Change - Initiatives of Change is a diverse, global network committed to building trust across the world's divides. It works on the principle that changes in people's motives, attitudes and behaviour are not only possible but are the only sure basis on which wider lasting change in society can be brought about. Aims and Objectives of IofC Initiatives of Change (IofC) is focussed around the interaction of people, whether few or many, in homes, small or large groups, personal encounters, training courses, and local or international conferences. For over 70 years IofC has brought people of diverse backgrounds and faiths together. It has provided a rallying point for individuals and teams to work for justice, healing and human development, based on personal change starting in their own lives. Current initiatives are aimed at: Healing the wounds of history that sustain cycles of revenge, especially where cultures and civilizations meet. Strengthening the moral and spiritual dimensions of democracy, so challenging selfish interests and corruption. Helping individuals and families to counter the climate of blame and selfishness with a culture of care and personal responsibility. Strengthening the motivation of care and moral commitment in economic life and thinking, in order to create jobs, correct economic and environmental imbalance, and tackle the root causes of poverty. Rebuilding a sense of community and hope in cities and tackling the causes of racial and communal discrimination. Forging networks among people from different cultures and faiths based on a shared commitment to work for reconciliation, justice, and peace.

Thank you for visiting my Caux Challenge page!

I am dedicating my challenge of ¨Searching for land to restore¨ to fundraise towards international participation for the 2011 Caux Forum for Human Security 10-17 July in Caux, Switzerland.

Why do I do this?

Simply put: I want to help! But also because it makes sense:

  • Each year an area three times the size of Switzerland is lost due to misuse of the world’s soils. 
  • Millions of people are being forced to move to more productive land, and this is a major cause of conflict. But this degradation can not only be halted. It can be reversed.
  • The 2011 Caux Forum for Human Security will work to advance specific situations in which Forum participants are active. And among them is: Restoring Earth’s degraded land. 
  • Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, will lead a day on initiatives to turn back the man-made deserts and restore the Earth’s agricultural land. It will both inform and launch a strategy to bring this crucial issue to world attention.

But that is not it! I am also doing it because I am convinced of how much our Earth is in need and since last year I have been voluntarily co-starting a reforestation project.

How would it work? 

I will be looking for land (any number of hectares) such as in the Lacandon Jungle in Chiapas, Mexico where more than two-thirds of the 4,700,000 acres of forest have been cut down. They will later be restored through my reforestation project. You can follow me in twitter (request access).
