Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity
The death of a baby before, during or shortly after birth is a devastating experience with lifelong consequences for the whole family. Sadly, each year thousands of families face such heartache, with 15 babies dying every single day. Although the UK’s stillbirth rate has fallen slightly in recent years, it remains unacceptably high. We work to support bereaved families and improve the care they receive as well as fund vital research to prevent more families suffering the loss of their precious baby. To do this, we rely on your generosity and your help is greatly appreciated.
Children Are Butterflies
To provide support and guidance to families* who have lost a child of any age. This we will achieve by: - Extending the support network to those families beyond the hospital, healthcare community, families and friends. - Providing a support community, with other parents in similar situations, to reinforce the slogan "You Are Not Alone". This will be achieved through the web site, through meetings and other social events. - Providing financial assistance for those families who are having difficulty paying for standard funeral disbursements**. * Residing in, and requiring a funeral in, the UK. ** Standard funeral disbursements are: Church fees, minister fees, organist fees, cemetery fees, crematorium fees, doctors' fees. (It is usual for these fees to be waived or reduced for a child's funeral.) Standard funeral disbursements ARE NOT: Funeral Director professional fees, funeral printing, vehicles, flowers, press notices, memorials, catering and anything else, considered by the trustees, not to be essential to a basic funeral.

Face your fears for Ophelia

On the 07/07/2014 I gave birth to our beautiful daughter Ophelia, she was stillborn at 39+6 after a textbook pregnancy. That day was one of the happiest and saddest day's of our lives, she was our love and will be missing from our lives forever.

We made a promise to Ophelia that we would take her soul home with us and we would live her life for her, saying yes rather than no to opportunities that come our way. We want her to experience as many things and visit as many places as possible through us, which is why we have set up this page.

Paul and I will be taking part in a number of challenges that force us to face our fears, things like Scuba Diving, Abseiling, Flying etc and we will be raising money for two charities that have supported us since the loss of our wonderful Ophelia - SANDS and Children are Butterflies

Paul will also be taking part in the Milton Keynes Marathon on 4 May 2015. It is the first he has ever run and has so far managed to complete the equivalent of a half marathon!

If you have been touched by Ophelia's life and have a fear that you want to conquer, get involved!!!

Ophelia's life was cut too short, this could have been prevented if there was more research, better care and greater awareness of the risks of stillbirth and newborn death, we can help to tackle that!

Lots of love

Sarah and Paul

Sands has a nationwide group of local networks run by bereaved parents to support anyone affected by the loss of a baby. My local group, Northamptonshire Sands is part of this network and 25% of your total donations will be used to support their work. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Sands will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you. The Gift Aid is used to support Sands work across the UK.

What we have but upto so far...

Jungle Parc - I am terrified of heights, so this was a real challenge for me but I managed to keep my nerve and got around the course which was 10 metres tall at points.

Swimming with the turtles - There is an overall theme here because I am scared of most things... Another fear being out of my depth and surrounded by marine life. Once again, I found the courage to dive in and not on swam close to the turtles but dived down and touched them too! Video link below:

Face your fear challenge - Spiders, cockroaches, scorpions, snakes, you name it, we held it! Video below:
Run or Dye - This was a little bit of fun but a challenge for me who was quite unfit and only three months postpartum. Video below:
Some me of these challenge many only be small but we fully intend to ramp it up and the marathon is just around the corner along with a few summer time flights xx
