Charity

The Candlelighters Trust
Yorkshire's pre-eminent childhood cancer charity supporting children, teenagers and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, lives are turned upside down in an instrant. Not just for the child but for their parents, siblings and family friends. Priorities change and everyday concerns sudddenly seem trivial. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, physically emotionally and even financially. Helping and supporting those children and their families throughout that journey is why Candlelighters was formed more than 40 years ago and it is why we are still here today. The charity was founded and is still run by parents of children who have or have had cancer or leukaemia and the medical staff who treat them. This means that we understand the trauma and the turmoil of that diagnosis and how the support and care needed may differ from family to family. Whether it be through the support of our friendly staff and experienced counsellors, that "home away from home" environment we nurture on the ward in Leeds, or the vital research into new treatments, we are here to help. go to www.candlelighters.org.uk

Geoff vs The Mountain

Fundraiser:
Geoff Shepherd

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GeoffShepherd

In September, 13 of us will be trekking for up to 10 hours per day, over 6 days, to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres above sea level. Together with people from iSourceIT, The Test People and The Yorkshire Mafia I will be walking, climbing, crawling and crying my way to the summit to raise money for Candlelighters.

Established in 1976 and based in Yorkshire, Candlelighters is a charity formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer, ex-patients and the medical staff who treat them.  Candlelighters provides essential services and support to children with cancer and their families.
