Charities

The Davie Cooper Centre
We are a registered charity formed to build a Centre for children and young adults with special needs together with their families and carers. The centre will have indoor play and activity areas, sensory, musical and soft play rooms. Relaxation therapies will also be available. Outdoors will feature a suitably equipped adventure playground. It is intended to develop an outreach service offering home support to families by staff from the centre. In addition to the day centre our plans include a five bedroom short stay respite facility and a six bedroom learning disability unit.
MND Scotland
MND Scotland 76 Firhill Road Glasgow G20 7BA 0141 945 1077 www.mndscotland.org.uk Motor Neurone Disease stops the nerve cells that control the body’s movement from sending messages to muscles. MND is often rapid and always fatal. There is no known cure. As the disease progresses, the person will lose their ability to walk, talk and feed themselves, although their intellect usually remains unaffected. They will eventually lose the ability to breathe unaided. The average life expectancy is just 14 months from diagnosis. There are currently 373 people living in Scotland with MND, and more than 130 people will be diagnosed this year. MND Scotland is the only charity providing care and support for people with MND and their carers, while also funding research into the disease. Everyone with MND in Scotland receives direct care from our team of Care Specialists who also ensure that our information and support services can be accessed after diagnosis and throughout the progression of the disease. We provide direct support to people with MND and their families, through the loan of specialist equipment such as electronic communication aids for people who can no longer speak, financial support, information, advice, and professional counselling for people affected by MND and relatives bereaved by the loss of someone to MND.

Hello and thanks for visiting our page,

We are part of Gobi United FC, a group of Old Firm and Motherwell Fans that are setting off in September 2011 to trek the Gobi Desert in memory of Jimmy Johnstone and Davie Cooper to raise money for MND Scotland and the Davie Cooper Centre.

This trip is being organised by Jock McInnes, a serial fundraiser who has raised £750,000 for various charities during his lifetime, and run by Sandbaggers, a company with a wealth of experience in these type of treks.

You can read more about the challenge over at http://jockmcinnes.wordpress.com

and more about the charities involved at www.thedaviecoopercentre.org and  www.mndscotland.org.uk

By sponsoring us to take part in this challenge you will be helping two fantastic charities - all proceeds raised will be equally split between the two organisations. If you are eligible to claim Gift Aid, please do. This means that the charities can claim an extra 28% on top of your donation.

We leave 3rd Sept 2011 @ Half Time from the Centre Circle of Hampden in front of  Tartan Army - Scotland V Czech Rep. We then fly to Mongolia to be the first British Football Team to play a match in The Mongolian National Stadium against their select 11.

Once we've gubbed them 7 nil !!! We're off on an eight day trek across the Gobi Descert - a 100 mile trek taking in some of the largest dunes in the world.

Don't worry if you cannot make a donation, but I would ask if you could pass this onto others in your address list or friends list in any social network sites.  No donation is too small, as every penny is appreciated and makes a difference.

Thanks for checking out our page, please come back from time to time and see how we are getting on in our efforts to reach my target.

Kind regards
