Nick Histon and Joe Keith will be raising funds for the Southampton General Intensive Care Unit. Nick Histon works as a Charge Nurse on the General Intensive Care;

“I am privileged to work in one of the best Intensive Care Units in the country. Southampton GICU works tirelessly to care for patient’s that require intensive therapy due to a range of illnesses. A lot of our patients require care for weeks, sometimes even months and have to endure their own physical and mental battle.  A team of Doctors, Nurses and Physiotherapists work hard to rehabilitate patients to try and get them back to the life they knew before Intensive Care. Joe and I are aiming to raise funds to buy vital rehabilitation equipment that the physiotherapy team can use to get our patients back on their feet. A very worthy cause.”

Greenland is a beautiful remote Wilderness and is the largest island in the World. The vast majority of Greenland is made up by it’s Icecap, which in places is up to two miles thick. Although this arctic environment is beautiful, it is also harsh and conditions can be extreme. Temperatures on the Icecap can drop to minus 20 degrees and even lower when windchill is taken into consideration.

Nick Histon and Joe Keith will aim to traverse the Greenland Icecap in April 2012. They will pull their all their own supplies behind them in pulks (sledges) in a traditional unsupported Polar expedition. This will mean trekking anything from 10 – 20 miles a day and then camping on the icecap at night. They will trek for approximately 25 days covering a distance of 360 miles. Nick and Joe can expect to lose a significant amount of weight whilst on the Icecap.
