Haiti Hospital Appeal
Haiti Hospital Appeal was founded in 2006 to create a Maternity and Peadiatric hospital in the North of Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. In 2007 we opened our Health Clinic to provide primary health care, vaccination and neutrician programs for the people of Cap Haitien and began the building of the foundations for our hospital. In 2008 we sent over an emergency ambulance to help transfer very sick patients from our health clinic to the local hospitals and to provide response to road trafic accidents. In 2009 we established the "Maison de Benediction" a children's home for respite and care for children with severe physical or mental disabilities. This home serves more than 50 families and provides children with a safe environment where they can learn, be fed and cared for while their parent are able to go to work to earn money to survive. When the earthquake struck Port-au-Prince on 12th January 2010 we were able to respond becasue we were aleady on the ground in Haiti and had facilities we could bring into immediate service. Our Ambulance ran more than 30 mercy trips into Port-au-Prince bringinig in aid and helping refugees and victims of the quake. Our Health Centre was opened 24/7 to take in victims who arrived in Cap Haitien but who had received no medical response to their injuries. We were also able to complete two of our hospital buildings in time to open these for some of the mose seriously injured victims. Our hospital is now running one of the few specialist Spinal Injury Units in Haiti and has 20 patients and their families. We depend on voluntary gifts and individuals who have volunteered their services either in the UK helping us raise funds and spread the word, or specialist medical staff who have helped us create and sustain our work with our Haitian staff in the hospital We are still planning to open our Maternity and Peadiatric services in 2010 and are planning a long term care centre for our spinal injury patients.

The Dream is a campaign supported by UK charities to enter a team of Paralympians from Haiti into the London 2012 games. Working in association with the National Paralympic Committee of Haiti we want to use this incredible opportunity to:

  • Help fight the stigma associated with people with disability within Haiti, so communities can provide greater support to those in need.
  • Inspire people all over the world, especially those with disability.
  • Encourage the international community to better respond to the needs of people with disability in the developing world.
  • Provide infrastructure for long-term sporting activity, for people with disability in Haiti.

The Dream is supported by Global Hand UK, BMS World Mission and the Haiti Hospital Appeal.
