The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. The RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews rescue an average of 23 people a day around the coasts and waterways of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. From 235 lifeboat stations, they are well trained and equipped to put to sea in the most fearsome conditions when the call comes. RNLI lifeguards patrol more than 200 beaches in the UK. As well as rescuing people from the water, they are also on hand for first aid and safety advice, making sure everyone can make the most of their day at the beach. Are you passionate about the water? Do you want to be part of a lifesaving team? Whatever the reason for your interest in our work, we’d love to have you onboard. The RNLI is an independent charity and receives no government funding. We rely on public support.
Outdoor Recreation NI
Outdoor Recreation NI is a not-for-profit organisation whose role is to develop, manage and promote outdoor recreation across Northern Ireland. This is achieved through working in partnership with a wide range of organisations which have an interest in, or involvement with, outdoor recreation. Our mission is "to create a vibrant outdoor recreation culture, through collaborative initiatives, that inspire action" to achieve our vision of "Placing Outdoor Recreation at the heart of society".

On 27th July 2016 I fulfilled a lifelong dream and swam from Moville, Co. Donegal, Republic of Ireland to Portstewart, Co.Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 4hrs 18mins accompanied by a boat and according to ILSDA & CSA rules. I am now officially the first ever irish person to complete the swim and the fastest. It was an incredible journey, every second of which I will remember until the day I die. I remain indebted to those who helped me complete this swim, to those who believed in me, and to you who have supported me through donating to these two incredibly wonderful funds close to my heart.

I have been fundraising for the Outdoor Recreation fund I have established for Portstewart and the RNLI Portrush Branch (50/50). We have raised an incredible amount of money together, almost £5000 as I type this! and I thank everyone who has donated every penny they have. The funds will make an incredible difference to so many peoples lives, saving them and inspiring them. I would still embrace any firther donations that people wish to make, they go directly into the charities accounts, and I will call the final amount at the end of October once the One Show coverage has aired.

Sponsoring on this site is safe, quick and easy. I wish to raise as much money as I possibly can for:

Portstewart Fund (administered by Outdoor Recreation NI) - to encourage and facilitate outdoor recreation in the coastal community of Portstewart, to benefit people of all ages and abilities and inspire future generations.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) - to support the largest charity that saves lives at sea and in turn supporting the Portrush lifeboat station who protect those on the coast of Portstewart.

Thank you so much for whatever you are able to give, from £1 to £100 every penny will literally make a difference to somebodies life. To find out more about how I hope the Portstewrat Fund will help people, please visit my website at www.swimforportstewart.com.

Thank you so much everyone.
