Well hello there!

This isn't the first time I've written one of these pages, but it is the biggest challenge I've ever been daft enough to attempt!

I'm a runner, although it still feels weird to say that! I've completed 4 half-marathons in the last couple of years, and nothing quite compares to the giddy thrill of crossing the finish line.

I run because it feels good to get outside and because it plays a huge part in managing the symptoms of the mental illnesses I deal with.

Mental health issues affect so many people. Those that don't suffer themselves will almost certainly know and love someone who does. There is, unfortunately, still a lot of misunderstanding and stigma surrounding mental illness. For example, how often when we see a news article about a shocking violent crime do we hear "well they must have a mental illness" or "they're not right in the head"? How many people dress up as "insane asylum" patients on Halloween? How many people insist that since a mental illness is "all in your head" then you must be able to feel better through sheer force of will and a positive attitude?

Mental illness isn't a joke, nor is it something we should be afraid of. As a charity Mind works to support people suffering with mental health issues and to quote their website: "We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect".

And that's why I'm running the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon for Mind! I am healthier and happier now than I have been in a long time and that's because I have received the support and respect I needed to come to terms with my anxiety and depression and to lessen their impact on my daily life.

If you would like to sponsor me, please use this page. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

Thank you so much for your support! It means the world to me.
