Hello, thank you for visiting my page!

For some reason, I decided it would be a good idea to register for the Brighton Marathon 2011, partly so I could say I have done it, partly because I had temporarily lost my mind and partly because Amber decided to put herself through it to raise money for Macmillan so I thought I'd join her.

Sadly, while this was going on, Maryanne Riley, mother to my good friend Katherine Leah Di Ventura, was battling breast cancer. Maryanne sadly died on June 9th 2010 and a few days before, I'd told her about my crazy plans to run the marathon. Maryanne worked as a Mental Health Advocate for Mind and it meant a lot to her. I decided that if I was going to do it, I would do it for a good cause and for this reason, I chose to run for Mind as a tribute to Maryanne.

So, the marathon pack came through over the weekend and now there is no going back, so it is time for me to lace my trainers and start pounding the streets of London again. In April 2010, I was a complete non-runner; I have now completed two half-marathons and it is now time to start training for that extra 13.1, which doesn't sound as scary as saying 'I am going to run 26.2 miles.'

Please check back for periodic updates on my training. I'd be really grateful for anything you can donate, regardless of how much or how little as it will all help me reach that finish line (and swift pint at the end!). If you fancy coming to support me on the day, that would be cool too! But you must wear pink.

Love,

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

10/01/11: Well, the training has begun properly now and due to a lazy December, it has been much tougher than anticipated! Never mind, I have been out pounding the streets and will be entering the Sidcup 10 Mile road race on February 13th. I've put my entry in for the Surrey Spitfire 20 on March 14 - yes folks, 20 miles. This marathon is really happening!

14/02/11: The long runs aren't quite long enough yet - I'm about 2 miles behind what I should be, but I'm doing 14 miles on Saturday with a friend so that will get me back on track. Yesterday, I did a 10 mile race in Sidcup and zipped round in 97 minutes and 15 seconds. Yes, I am very pleased with that indeed!

09/03/11: Up to 16 miles and just over 4 weeks to go - very close now! Training has been hampered a bit by a couple of nasty colds, so I haven't done enough short runs and I'm 2 miles behind what my long run should be. I'm doing a 20 mile race on Sunday, which puts me back on track, but I hope I manage to finish it!

14/03/11: Well, I completed the 20 mile Surrey Spitfire. The first 14 miles were great and then it went horribly wrong due to a stitch and my back seizing up. But at least I completed it and my target marathon time is still there...just!

14/04/11: What can I say? I did it. Best experience ever. Crossed the line with a sprint finish in 5:09, so 10 minutes outside my target time, but the heat was awful. Thank you so much for all your support - my page will remain open for the rest of the year as I have decided to dedicate my remaining races this year to the cause. Next up - the Bupa London 10k.

11/10/11: The Bupa 10k was run in 59 minutes with a nasty cold. Wanted to be nearer to 57, but I will take a sub-hour with a cold very happily! Royal Parks completed on Sunday 9/10/11 in a time of 2.19. Not a bad effort with tendonitis. Bring on next year's challenge where hopefully I will be able to start a race in full health!
