Macmillan Cancer Support
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer. We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604).
Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice provides support to children in South Yorkshire,North Derbyshire,North Nottinghamshire and North East Lincolnshire with life limiting conditions, which means the child is not expected to live into adulthood. We estimate that there are 500 children in this region who could benefit from our support. Our hospice is a relaxed and happy place where families can take a break, have fun and get help with the care they need. We also assist children and their families in their own homes. Our support includes ongoing medical respite care for the poorly child, practical and emotional support for family members, sibling and bereavement support and end of life care. It costs £3 million annually to provide this service, and with no statutory government funding, fundraising and public support is vital to our success.

The Toughest Footrace on Earth

Ian Wright, Richard Jones

My page:

In April 2012, Ian Wright and Richard Jones will be running in the 27th Marathon des Sables - a gruelling race of approximately 150 miles across the Sahara Desert in Morocco.  The race is self sufficient, meaning that we will have to carry all of our own personal equipment and food for the 7 days of the race and we will start the race with packs weighing in excess of 11kg.

Although the exact route is not given to the competitors until the day before the race itself, we are fairly certain that it will be hot, sandy and a bit tiring.  Enduring heat of up to 45oC and running up to 52 miles in a single stage, we expect to have to deal with dehydration, blisters, sandstorms and much more besides.

For anyone interested in taking part, places may still be available via the waiting list.  Alternatively we would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring us to do the event on your behalf.

Our two chosen charities are Macmillan Cancer Support and Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice in Sheffield.

Most, if not all, of us will have been affected by cancer in one form or another. Macmillan do excellent work providing support for those suffering from the disease, and their families.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support to children and young adults with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at their hospice in Sheffield.  Their excellent work is well renowned in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, where we both live, work and run....

100% of the money we raise will go directly to the chosen charities as we're paying all our own costs of participating in the race, so please rest assured that all your donation will be benefitting others.

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
