Marathon wedding team charity fundraiser

This is the team charity fundraising page for Groom Duncan, Bride Jackie, Cousin James Briggs and Father of the Bride Eamonn!

The story behind the 26.2-mile wedding

When Duncan proposed to me on Christmas Day 2013 (after 13 years together), I thought all my dreams had come true. But, little did we know as we raised a glass to our future, that the lump I discovered in the shower the day before would turn out to be an agressive form of breast cancer.

It wasn't the engagement either of us wanted, but it did inspire us to make the most of every day - rather than dreaming of a wedding day months in the future.

It's fair to say, the last few years have been one big adventure as we've volunteered, travelled, run and laughed our way through each day. And, it has been a real privilege to go on that adventure with Duncan by my side.

So, it seems only fitting that our wedding (yes, we are actually going to do it) should follow a similar theme.

That's why at 7.30am on 23 April 2017, we will be pulling off a world first and getting married on the Cutty Sark before running the London Marathon. Then, we'll be heading off on a trek of the Great Wall of China for our honeymoon (self-funding so every penny goes to charity). It's the big charity fundraiser wedding. It means the world to us and we really couldn't imagine doing it any other way!

We are humbled and privileged to be joined on the start line by my wonderful cousin James Briggs (for his first ever marathon) and my incredible dad, who is also tackling his first-ever marathon as father of the bride (complete with hip replacement). It is brilliant to have two of the wedding party on the course with us! My dad was the person who helped me complete my first-ever run, so this event has even more meaning now he is a part of it.

There is also going to be a Hen 10k run in February involving 20 hens (many of whom have never run before, such as my mum). It should be fun!

Why Willow and Breast Cancer Care? It was because of Willow that we were able to celebrate our engagement on the Orient Express during treatment so that I could escape being a patient and Duncan could play partner not carer. It was a turning point for us. Breast Cancer Care have been there for us since diagnosis day and it is because of their support that I realised cancer can take a lot of things, but it doesn't have to take your smile.

Running brought us together at a time that could have so easily ripped us apart.

I'm not sure either of us thought we'd end up getting married in lycra (or running for hours after the big 'I do' - especially when the bride has a hip full of metal and a body rearranged by serious illness).

But, we are proud to be able to make our happy day one that will help many many more people find happiness and support in the future.

We'd be grateful if you could give what you can to help us go the extra mile for these incredible charities.

See you at the finish line!
