Crohn's and Colitis UK
Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the new name for The National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease (NACC). We are a major charity offering support through our website, helplines, newsletters, information booklets and local community groups. The charity campaigns for better healthcare and funds vital research in Crohn's and Colitis. Crohn’s and Colitis are inflammatory bowel diseases which last a lifetime and for which there is no known cure. They can strike at any age but young people are most at risk. Around 250,000 people across the UK have these conditions.

Crewing for Crohn's

The Story

Fergus - is our 9 year old son. He is full of life.... but he has Crohn's disease.

Crohn's is a a chronic condition where ulcers form along the digestive tract and for Fergus it affects his whole tract. There are no external signs that anything is wrong, but internally there is constant and sometimes excruciating pain. It is unpredictable and very tiring.  When it flares up we have to feed him a special diet through a nasal gastric tube, 6 times a day for 6 to 8 weeks.  It is uncomfortable, makes his life difficult at school and of course, it affects the whole family. Fergus deals with his condition incredibly well.  Although he gets frustrated, he takes the pain on... but never complains. He is a fighter.

Crewing for Crohn's - my challenge

Crohn's affects 90,000 people in the UK alone and with Colitis (colon specific) 300,000.  This is a massive disease, it is sadly far too prevalent and is rarely talked about.  My wife, Fiona and I are determined to raise funding to help find a cure and to raise awareness of this devastating and debilitating disease.

To do that I have found a challenge which I hope helps to draw attention to the day to day challenges that all Crohn's and Colitis sufferers face...I will join an 8 man team to row across the Atlantic and attempt to break the world record of 32 days.  I am a novice rower so this will test me to the extreme!

Can you help?

Anything you can donate will make a big difference to finding a cure for this horrible disease and help to spur me on in my rowing challenge.

Thank you for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to my charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
