COSMIC
Every year the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary's Hospital in London treats 500 children who are seriously ill. COSMIC (Children of St Mary's Intensive Care), the charity which supports the Unit, relies totally on your donations to provide life-saving equipment and to fund vital research to ensure that the children in our care get the best treatment possible.

Kicking Kawasaki 2017

Fundraiser:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page

This year I will be undertaking some personal challenges and other events in order to raise as much as we can for Kawasaki Disease Research, with the aim of helping the research teams kick Kawasaki's butt once and for all.

My daughter Freya was 7 weeks old when she became sick in May 2015.  She was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease 13 days later, missing the ciritical 10-day window for effective treatment which reduces the risk of coronary complications.  Freya's heart was damaged as a result of the disease, and will require life-long treatment and care.

A unique team, led by Professor Jane C. Burns, MD ( Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego USA ) and Professor Michael Levin ( Imperial College London)  have combined the research expertise of two world leading research groups with long term commitment to research on Kawasaki disease.

Through a collaborative program of work they aim to:

  • discover the cause of Kawasaki Disease
  • develop a diagnostic test
  • understand the genetic basis of Kawasaki Disease
  • develop new treatments.

Efforts to advance Kawasaki Disease research will also go twice as far thanks to the Gordon and Marilyn Macklin Foundation. The Macklin Foundation has given The Kawasaki research collaboration an incredible opportunity to rapidly advance Kawasaki Disease research by matching gifts dollar for dollar up to $2.5 million! Every £ we raise here in the UK goes to Imperial College, with the amount being matched in $ for the US side of the research program!

You can sponsor me through Virgin Money Giving, and donations will be quicly processed and passed to the charity COSMIC who are collecting for the research here in the UK.  Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf wheere the donor is eligible for this.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. I will share the link each time I advertise a new event.  I will be running in the Manchester 10km in May, our local village 6.5km in June, and hoping to participate in some other physical challenges later in the year.

Thank you

Jo McBride, and Freya
