Charities
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Make-A-Wish Foundation UK grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. The charity was founded in the UK in 1986 and since then we have granted over 5,500 magical wishes to children and young people aged between three and seventeen years old. There are over 20,000 children in the UK living with a life-threatening illness and we believe that every one of them deserves to experience the magic of a Make-A-Wish wish. Anyone can refer a child to us. This year, around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. Our wishes are truly magical. A small and dedicated team of professional wishgranters works alongside hundreds of volunteers to turn our children’s wishes into reality. Whether a wish is to be a princess or a train driver for the day, own the latest TV or computer equipment, meet a favourite celebrity or just enjoy some special time away from home with their family, a wish come true brings so much to a child’s life and provides memories that last a lifetime for the whole family. Make-A-Wish needs to raise over £5 million per year in order to continue granting these magical wishes. We receive no government funding or lottery grants, relying on the generous donations of the public - and that’s why, for our charity, every donation really counts.
We are the RAF's leading welfare charity providing practical, financial and emotional support to all members of the RAF family, from childhood through to old age. Hi, thanks for visiting our page. We are a team of 5 amateur runners currently serving in the Royal Air Force and on the 1st May 2012 we will run from John O’Groats to Land’s End. The run will be completed using a rolling relay structure with each runner taking it in turns to run 70, 15 mile legs. That’s a total of 1057 miles or about 211 miles each. We will all be running 24 hours a day.
We’ll have a seven man support crew, who will be divided into two teams. They will drive a motor home, a mini bus, car and ride a support bicycle. Alongside the main event, we have incorporated our home station of RAF Odiham, before continuing southbound along our route.
We’re raising money and awareness for five great charities:
- Macmillan,
- Make a wish foundation,
- Dementia UK,
- RAF Benevolent Fund,
- Edgar's Gift.
We are hoping that this event will be a huge success and highlight the incredible work of these charities, which improves the quality of life for thousands of individuals and their families.
If you wish to follow our work then keep checking in here as well as our Facebook group, facebook page, google & twitter for further details
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Gift aid can be claimed on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
