The Shackleton Foundation
The Shackleton Foundation celebrates the legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton, the famous leader, adventurer and Antarctic explorer. Our mission is to bring about positive social change by investing in the people and the projects with the power to make a difference. We support entrepreneurial ideas, inspirational projects and budding leaders, who exemplify the indomitable spirit of Shackleton. We provide seed funding and support to enable aspiring leaders to establish their own ventures to help the disadvantaged and socially marginalised in society. We look for long-lasting, far-reaching projects with the potential to provide solutions to intractable social problems.

2014 marks the centenary of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s famed trans-Antarctic Endurance mission. The Shackleton Foundation is celebrating Shackleton’s legacy of endurance and leadership by running the My Antarctic campaign. The campaign aims to raise the profile of and fundraise for the Foundation’s work with leaders and social entrepreneurs who are making a difference to the lives of people in need and to local communities.

The My Antarctic Campaign

The Shackleton Foundation believes that everyone has an ‘Antarctic’ – a personal challenge that they would love to achieve, but are afraid to try. My Antarctic provides an exciting opportunity for people to take on a challenge they have always secretly wanted to do, whilst at the same time raising money for a great cause. Antarctic projects can be anything large or small, from finally plucking up the courage to jump from the high diving board or launching yourself out of a plane, and everything in-between.

My Antarctic – Going Homeless

I have always been petrified of not having a home to go to, a bed to snuggle up in, a clean kitchen packed full of food & wine and a clean bathroom (with loo seats down..!).  I cannot even begin to imagine how overwhelming, difficult, testing, demoralising and hopeless it might all be.  Studies have shown that people who become homeless at an early age are more likely to remain homeless for longer.  Others have shown strong links to increased rates of mental illness and suicide.  My personal Antarctic is to spend the night homeless in Central London on 1st August, armed with my very obvious street-smarts (!!), my very feisty friend Cassandra and a notebook & pen to write about our experience.

The aim of this challenge is to help raise money for The Shackleton Foundation which has supported some wonderfully deserving and socially entrepreneurial leaders to date.  Although we are not directly raising money for the homeless, the proceeds of your much appreciated donations will help other very important causes, some of which may indirectly help reduce the number of people who may have no option but to be homeless.

We would be very grateful for any help you can give us to support The Shackleton Foundation.  If you would like to learn more about the Foundation and some of the leaders we have supported, please click on the following link.  http://shackletonfoundation.org/

Thank you very much!!!
