MACS (Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia and Coloboma Support)
MACS ( was formed in 1993, by a group of parents, all of whom had children with microphthalmia (small formed eyes), anophthalmia (no eyes) and coloboma (sight problems). Until then, most families had no contact with other children with these conditions, nor the opportunity to meet, support and learn from each other. MACS is helping to change all that. MACS is a Registered Charity in the UK and is run by volunteer parents with children who have the eye conditions, by young people who are directly affected and a small staff team of three. Mutual support, from people who know what you are experiencing, either as a parent or young person, is something that we passionately believe in. We have come a long way but there is still a lot more to be done to achieve better understanding of the eye conditions, to fully support those affected by these conditions, and to improve opportunities for people with Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia, Coloboma. Thanks for helping us to achieve this.

My page:

Hi all,

I'm running the VLM in 2017 for MACS - the UK's national charity for kids born without eyes or underdeveloped eyes. In a nutshell, they support those born with Microphthalmia (small eyes), Anophthalmia (no eyes) and/or Coloboma (cleft of the eye) and their families.

The reason I'm running for MACS is to not only learn more about the conditions but to also raise awareness of the work MACS does and for once, actually do something for someone else. After all, who would be mad to run a marathon for personal gain?

You're probably questioning the profile picture - it's a flavour of what I may wear on race day but am open to suggestions. So far it's come down to a maid outfit.

Follow my prep and progress on Twitter and Instagram and I really do appreciate all the support and any donations that come in.
