Our mission is to provide help, support and advice to children in care and young care leavers so that they can unleash their potential. Each of these children one has dreams, hopes and unique abilities. We help them to move beyond traumatic childhoods marred by abuse and neglect, and towards becoming the person they want to be. Across our programmes of work at Become, we aim to build young people's emotional wellbeing and resilience to help them live powerfully and purposefully. This work includes the Care Advice Line, a confidential service that children in care and young care leavers can call for free, offering down-to-earth information and advice. The Become Coaching Programme aims to achieve profound, positive and sustainable improvement in the wellbeing of young people leaving care aged 16 up. Propel raises young care leavers' aspirations to continue their education beyond the age of 16, while our Passport to Parliament project and policy influencing work help make the care system work better by ensuring that young people’s voices and perspectives shape policy and service provision. Our vision is that children who spend time in care have equal chances to lead a happy and fulfilling life to those who are raised in their birth families. Please help us to make this a reality.

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

On 8th October, (the weekend of my younger daughter's 1st birthday!) I will be running the Royal Parks half marathon in support of children in care and young care leavers. I haven't run much for nearly ten years but it will be worth it because this is a cause I care deeply about...

Children in care are often the most vulnerable in our society - growing up without the family that most of us take for granted through absolutely no fault of their own. The responsibility of 'the state' (that's all of us!), too often the public is often unaware of their struggles to access basic rights and entitlements - to access mental health care, housing or education.

Despite often incredibly hard working and committed social workers and carers, problems in the system mean that too often the children's voices are not heard. And of course, these challenges are on top of dealing with the trauma of being separated from their birth family (not just parents, but often siblings and other family and friends too), often moving placements (that means a totally new 'home' and 'family', and even school) several times a year, for years on end. And of course, all this whilst trying to make sense of and come to terms with the difficult reasons why they were taken into care in the first place.

But it is not all bleak - great progress is being made thanks to charities like Become.

Become (previously The Who Cares? Trust) is the charity that supports children in care and care leavers. Just last year it launched an amazing helpline, which has already receive over 1000 calls!, and a high quality personal coaching programme to help young people leaving care to achieve their goals. It advocates for children's rights at the highest levels of government and it's all round awesome!

I would be so grateful if you could donate whatever you can afford ... As a volunteer Trustee I can personally vouch that your money will be very well spent!

Many thanks for your support,
