Charities

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
Hospice UK
Hospice UK is the national charity for hospice care. We champion and support the work of more than 200 member organisations, which provide hospice care across the UK, so that they can deliver the highest quality of care to people with terminal or life limiting conditions, and support their families. Hospice care is provided free to patients, and with limited government funding, hospices across the country depend on the support of their local communities to help them continue their services.

Dave and Phil's End to End Cycle Challenge

Like most people, friends and family of ours have been touched by Cancer and have either lost their brave battle or are suffering from it.

Other than to provide moral support we have felt the urge to contribute something tangible to help combat the disease and to help those suffering from it and so we are going to (attempt to!) cycle from Lands End to John o’Groats in 10 days starting 21 June.

We would really appreciate your support through contributing to our selected charities or even by joining us for a day or so of the ride!

We don’t have a specific fundraising target in mind – only that we have tried our best and friends, associates and family have contributed if and as much as they want, so just GO FOR IT!

Cycling for 10 days, the ride itself works out at c1000 miles (c100 miles per day) and an overall cumulative height gain of 20,000m (that’s just over 2 Everests!)

We have selected two Cancer related charities and the reasons for each are set out below:

Dave's chosen charity is Cancer Research UK

Dave has lost two of his lifelong friends to cancer - guys who were only in their forties. Two members of his wider family are also going through their own journey with it.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. It has saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. Every day in the UK there are more than 400 people diagnosed with cancer that will survive the disease for more than 10 years thanks to research.

Phil's chosen charity is Help The Hospices

Help the Hospices wants everyone at the end of life to have access to the best possible care – it offers services to support hospice and palliative care professionals as they support their patients.

Help The Hospices is the 2014 Charity Partner of Allianz Insurance who match all donations £ for £
