Tour Ride 2011 - Stoke-on-Trent

Pro Ride Start/Finish: Stoke-on-Trent (Trentham Gardens) Distance: 140km Challenge Ride Start/Finish: Stoke-on-Trent (Trentham Gardens) Distance: 80km 2011 will be the third time that Stoke-on-Trent has hosted a Tour Ride, and riders from previous years will be well aware of the tough challenges provided by the rolling roads of the Staffordshire countryside. Some tough climbs will be part of both the Pro and Challenge ride routes again this year, including the infamous Gun Hill around midway through the Pro Ride. The Stoke-on-Trent stage of The Tour of Britain provided the key split for the professional race in 2010 and riders in The Tour Ride will be able to watch the race unfold on TV, before testing themselves on the same course a week later.

I'm a 70 year old cyclist been doing it for approx 55 years have ridden Time trials,track, hill climbs, road races, my main rides now are cyclo sportives both in the uk and abroad. I enjoy col crunching and head for them whenever I'm abroad, completed many In the Alps, Dolomites,Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada, 2years ago I completed 'Les Cingles' 3 times up the Ventoux in 1 day in a respectable 7hrs25min and got the certificate to prove I am really MAD!

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer about 3 years ago and I'm on the 'ProtecT' study for research onto prostate cancer.

In January this year I was diagnosed with Mesothelioma a type of lung cancer caused by exposure to Asbestos many years ago, having undergone surgery/radiotherapy and chemotherapy, I am now feeling tons better and cycling 150mls per week and building.

The Tour ride is my main target for 2011 having missed most of it due to hospital treatment.
