Marathon for Mind

Fundraiser:
Clive Thompson

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/marathonforMind

Many thanks for your interest. Things are well on course and I'm over halfway, with both my training schedule and the fundraising.

The 6 days a week training schedule since late November has been quite a challenge, but the generosity of the kind folk listed below prompted me to keep going. I had to miss only one day's training - when snowfall was really heavy - so I went toboganning instead !

But I need to reach my fundraising target as soon as possible.

This page, operated by Virgin Money Giving, makes it easy for you - if you have not already done so - to sponsor me in my preparations to run the London Marathon on 25 April. I am running to raise money for the mental health charity Mind.

For some people mental illness is a taboo subject, with a stigma attached to any discussion of it.

But the harsh reality is that 1 in 4 of us will suffer through some form of mental illness in our lives, with devastating consequences for the individual, friends and family. My own family has experienced this.

For Stephen Fry, Frank Bruno, Alastair Campbell, Paul Gascoigne, Stan Collymore, Marcus Trescothick, even Eastenders' "Stacey Slater" - their suffering has been in the public eye. But there are thousands more who battle their demons in private and without any help.

It does not need to be like that.

The charity Mind has the expertise to help people cope with condititions such as depression, bipolar disorder, dementia or full blown psychosis. But because it is a charity Mind depends on donations to continue its work.

I have run 3 marathons for charity over the years but the last one was 8 years ago, and this time it will be quite a challenge. So I hope you will sponsor me by making a donation to Mind through the blue box just below.

Donations will go direct to Mind not through me. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation, and will enable there to be a gift aid addition to whatever you donate.

As time goes onI shall update this page with more news of how the training and fundraising are going.

I really appreciate your interest and thank you in advance for any donation.
