Charities

Practical Action
Practical Action is an international development charity, founded in 1966 by radical economist Dr EF Schumahcer. We work with and employ local people to create simple, sustainable answers to poverty. We know that the right idea, no matter how small, can change lives.
Engineers Without Borders UK
Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) works with partners organisations and the education sector to inspire and support people to use science, technology and engineering to alleviate poverty.

Hello and a massive thank you for visiting our fundraising page.  We are undertaking 'Bratislava or Bust' - a Top Gear-esque road challenge event - in order to raise money for two fantastic charities, Engineers Without Borders UK and Practical Action.
We (Marcus Revington and Stacey Clifford for those not aware of our real names!) both volunteer for EWB-UK as the IT and Communications Co-ordinators resepctively, so it is a cause very close to our hearts.  It is unjust that in this day and age, people are suffering across the developing world for want of simple technologies that we take for granted - safe, clean water to drink, electricity to be able to learn or earn a living, adequate shelter, and a method of cooking that isn't causing poor health.  Indeed, 2 million people people die prematurely from illness attributable to indoor air pollution from household solid fuel use.
EWB-UK's vision is a world where access to technology is not a barrier to poverty alleviation, by helping to match skilled volunteers where they are needed with local NGOs, research developing world problems, and raise awareness of these issues back in the UK.
If you have any questions or wish to know more about the work of both these charities, please visit their websites - www.ewb-uk.org and www.practicalaction.org or get in touch with us directly.
We know that your support will make a difference to those in need and to the work that these charities are doing across the globe.  If you wish to discuss advertising on our challenge car, please get in touch!
***Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible (you must pay UK income tax!).***
