Macmillan Cancer Support
At Macmillan, we know cancer can affect everything. Your body, your relationships, your money, everything. But Macmillan is here to help people live life, no matter what. We give you the support you need to hold on to who you are and what’s important. But right now, we can’t reach everyone who needs us. Almost half of us will get cancer, and we need your help to make sure that people get the support they need to face one of the toughest fights of their lives. Life with cancer is still life -let’s help people live it. We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604).
Rockinghorse Children's Charity
Rockinghorse is a Brighton-based charity which has been helping children for over 40 years. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognised there was a real need for additional resources, to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies. We are best known today for our work with the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (The Alex) and our continued support of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton. However, we also raise money for life-saving medical equipment in a number of local hospitals, as well as providing much-needed sensory play areas for children with disabilities across the region. We do not receive any government funding and so we rely on the generous support of individuals, schools and clubs, companies and trusts: people like you.

Some points to note….

  1. I am built for comfort.
  2. I look at my best reclined in the snug with a glass in my hand.
  3. I am not built for lycra.
  4. Effort of any sort requires significant reward (my preference is such rewards are in pie format).
  5. I usually ride from home to coffee shop to pub to home. A grand distance of about 35 miles. This takes most of the day.
  6. Taking this challenge on is a big ask…

The plan: cycling from the fabled streets of Paris over 226 miles north west to the much less fabled streets of Swindon. Three full days in the saddle come rain or shine.

The reason: to raise pots of cash for two very worthy charities

The Equipment: a 1982 Mk 1 Raleigh Burner suitable road bike, two water bottles and grim determination.

The Training; I’ve adopted a strict, well planned and punishing training regime that I’m hoping I’ll find the courage to start anytime now.

THE BONUS FEATURE: if you help me beat my fundraising target I will (as suitable punishment) take on the 103 mile Brighton to Brighton challenge 5 days after the completion of the Paris Swindon Grand Tour. If I fall even 1p short I shall be playing my get out of jail free card

That's a potential 329 miles!!

The charities;

Macmillan Cancer Support: One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. These are those people.

Rockinghorse: are the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) and also support the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. At the heart of what they do is create an environment where kids can still be kids despite the difficult challenges they and their families have to face.

Thank you very much for your support

Michael
