Charities

The Daisy Garland
A family-run national children’s charity providing active support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their parents/carers. The charity was set up in memory of our daughter Daisy who tragically died at 6 years of age from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). We provide NHS hospitals with ketogenic dietitians - a medically recognised and accepted way of treating drug resistant epilepsy. This diet is not widely available on the NHS due to lack of funding. We also provide grants for night-time breathing monitors to children with drug-resistant epilepsy.
Trevi House
Trevi House is a truly unique service; the only one of its kind in the UK. Located in Plymouth, we have been offering specialist residential treatment services for over 22 years. What makes us different from other treatment centres is that children are able to come and live with their mums here at Trevi House, thus enabling both mother and child to get the support and care that they need to begin the recovery journey from addiction / domestic abuse. This makes Trevi a very special place indeed, somewhere where the concept of family underpins everything we do. Our aim is to enhance the relationship between mother and child, whilst also allowing the fullest time possible to address, what are often long running and deeply rooted problems with drugs and alcohol. Our programme is focused on addiction, parenting and domestic abuse and our ethos is to encourage clients to take personal responsibility for previous behaviour and future change. We are able to admit women in the latter stage of pregnancy, or with their baby soon after delivery, our local specialist midwife ensures that mother and baby are well cared for pre and post birth. After some dedicated 'bonding' time with mum, baby can be cared for in our nursery, complete with baby sensory room, whilst mum begins to engage in the therapeutic programme. Families come to live with us for up to six months. During that time, our multi-disciplinary team (nursery workers, counsellors, and support staff) provide onsite 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Thanks for visiting my page. To help keep myself sane and get me through January I am setting myself the challenge of running 100k by Jan31st. Those of you that know me well will appreciate that this is indeed a challenge for me as I have a love/hate relationship with running - I love the feeling afterwards but hate the actual running bit!

I am dedicating my run to my dear friend Dermot who would have just turned 50 and my amazing little Nephew Dylan who faces physical challenges every day of his live, and always with a huge smile. Both Charities are local - Trevi House in Plymouth provide rehabilitation to mother and child who live with drug/alcohol abuse and The Daisy Garland Charity in Totnes support children with intractable epilepsy. I would be so grateful for whatever support you can give - even just a few bob - to help these very worthy charities.

Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
