Charities

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Red Endangered Animal Connection Trust
The Red Endangered Animal Connection Trust (REACT) is a charity dedicated to connecting people with endangered animal conservation projects. We search out conservation projects that need your help and develop volunteer, education and corporate programmes. This allows the projects to save endangered animals, become financially independent and educate local and international people. We are involved in the conservation of large, iconic endangered animals and habitats, such as orangutans, bears, elephants and tropical rainforests. By protecting these flagship species and habitats, we can ensure the sustainable protection of large ecosystems across the world. This helps us maximize our efforts and get the greatest amount of benefits. When you donate to REACT, we’ll ensure that 80% (100% if you are a UK taxpayer and pay Gift Aid) of your money goes directly to the project. Our overheads are kept low so your money goes to help the endangered animals. We’ll also report back to you on how your donation has contributed. We are transparent and accountable so you know exactly how your money was spent, be it a hammock for a large male orangutan, a release programme for a sun bear, or a hectare of forest to provide a green corridor for a pygmy elephant. Alex Staniforth Mont Blanc 2012 Charity Climb

Fundraiser:
Alex Staniforth

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/montblanc2012

NOTE: I am now going to be wearing an Orang-utan costume on the summit to promote REACT and Orang-utan conservation! More below.

Thanks for visiting my page! Thanks for the support so far. I'm Alex, a slightly mad outdoors enthusiast, olympic torchbearer, the youngest person to do the 3 Peaks Challenge solo and an intrepid fundraiser, aged 16, from Kelsall in Cheshire. I'm a controlled epileptic which led to panic attacks and low self confidence from a young age, and I've proven that nothing is impossible and that you can overcome any obstacle. I'm trying my best to raise a lot of money for charity to help others whilst also acheiving lifetime goals and ambitions, pushing myself to the limit and having a great time. I'm also raising money for my aunty, read below to find out more.

I'm climbing Mt Blanc, (4810m, 15720ft) from the 22nd July this year to the 27th July, which as you should know is the highest peak in the Alps. Located near Chamonix, it's a pretty impressive peak, the highest part of the Mt Blanc massif. It is climbed by over 100,000 a year. I will be wearing a custom-made Orang-utan costume on the summit to promote Orang-utan conservation: I'm pretty sure I'll be the first person to do it!

I'll be doing this on a course with Dream Guides, a guiding company ran by record-breaking mountaineer Kenton Cool. I arrive in France on the 21st of July to meet with my group and return home the following Saturday (the 28th). I have the 50 mile Manchester-Chester bike ride the following day- just for good measure :-)

This is my biggest challenge yet, in July last year I broke the record for being the youngest person to complete the National 3 Peaks Challenge solo aged 16. I'll be 17 for Mt Blanc. I'm a competent and motivated young mountaineer, very keen on fitness in general and with a huge passion for the outdoors and extreme sports. The 3 Peaks has also led to me being confirmed as a London 2012 Olympics Torchbearer on the 29th of May.

Like I did with the 3 Peaks, I'll be raising money for two awesome charities, on a 50/50 split, one of which, REACT, was one of my 3 Peaks beneficiaries. I raised £1700 last time, but this time I'm hoping to beat £4,810- the height of Mt Blanc in metres!

 PLEASE SPONSOR ME!

REACT- The Red Endangered Animal Connection Trust- is a superb small charity ran by Guillaume Feldman, protecting Orangutans and other endangered species such as Sun Bears and Sumatran Elephants, by tree planting and conservation projects, and education. Notably a project is underway in the Kinabangtan river area in Borneo to reconnect forest corridors which is crucial to Orangutans survival.

Cancer Research UK is my second beneficiary recieving a 50% split, because I have lost relatives to this horrible disease, and the research already underway worldwide has led to the amount of suffering and loved ones lost dramatically being reduced by finding more cures and treatments. And I want to help that continue. It's close to my heart as currently my aunty is fighting a brain tumour. If my grandad was still here, I know he'd be very proud of me. Can you help sponsor me and prevent anyone else having to suffer like my family have from this horrible illness?

A couple of weeks after returning from France, I am going to take n the 800+ mile John O'Groats-Land's End bike ride over 10-11 days with 3 other torchbearers, to raise money for Epilepsy Action. Next year I hope to climb Mera Peak in the Himalayas. After this challenge, Kilimanjaro, Ultra Marathons, Ama Dablam, the Eiger, Matterhorn, Everest and the rest of the 7 Summits is on the cards, but the only thing holding me back is the money. Please contact me at climber-stani@hotmail.co.uk if you can help in any way. But let's not stop at £4810.

I'm very busy with all of this, but I'd have it no other way. I want to inspire people to live their dreams and smash their goals and be rewarded like I have, and I already have- that's an amazing feeling. But to feel like I'm helping towards two causes which mean a lot to me, and also enjoying the personal satisfaction of acheivement, it's all absolutely worth it. So can you help me reach this ambitious target please and help my aunty?

Know your limits, but never stop trying to break them.

Keep believing, keep achieving!

But don't forget, live the dream...
