The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre Lothian is an independent registered charity in Edinburgh. It was set up over 25 years ago by a group of people with MS and their families and friends, as were many other Therapy Centres in the UK. The Centre is open daily to provide practical therapies and support for people with MS in Fife, Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Borders. Therapies include Physiotherapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO), Reflexology and Yoga. Users have the opportunity to share their experiences with each other in an informal, friendly atmosphere, and there is a wide range of published information available in the Centre. We seek to provide support to carers also, and are looking to expand the amount of services available. We make no charge for physiotherapy, HBO and Yoga, and the other therapies are available at reduced prices. We rely on the generosity of users and the activity of their relations, friends and other fundraisers for support.
The MS Society is the UK's largest organisation dedicated to supporting the 100,000 people, their families and carers affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is the most common neurological disorder among young adults and is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 45. Our key services and projects include a national freephone helpline, respite care, an MS nurses programme, support for young people caring for families or relatives with MS, funding a dedicated MRI scanner for the diagnosis of MS, providing award-winning information publications and offering welfare grants for home adapdations and wheelchairs.

Benny's Big Swim
My name is Ben Moran an MS sufferer in remission and fanatical swimmer. This is what has been happening;
On the 1st of May 2011 I attempted to swim the River Forth at its South to North Queensferry mouth. Unfortunately wind conditions resulted in sailing having to be suspended in the area and with less than one span of the rail bridge to go I had to abort. Although I was understandably distressed by this I have now arranged a support boat again and will be re attempting in September hopefully under more favourable conditions.
To give an inclination of how important the charities that I am doing this are I have since had a relapse and with their support and treatments was quickly able to feel healthy enough to try this again.
My sincerest thanks to all those who have given already and please tell your friends, family and colleagues about this event.
Nothing has changed all funds collected will be split evenly between the two following charities.
The MS Therapy Centre Lothian (in Swanfield, Leith) provides much-needed treatments to MS sufferers throughout the Lothian and Borders region and is one of 70 independent MS Therapy Centres throughout the UK.
The MS Society. The focus of the Society is to provide support today, whilst funding vital medical research to find a cure for the future.
