Charities
The Stroke Association is a registered national charity solely concerned with stroke. We aim to reduce strokes through research and health education, and also help and support people and their families who have been affected by stroke through our Community Services.
Kidscape work to prevent the abuse and exploitation of children. Though we are known for providing information about safety and child abuse, we have a special interest in and experience with bullied children, bullying that may take the form of emotional, physical, or cyber attacks. Always a part of school life, bullying affects, according to a recent national survey, almost three-quarters of children. We see children from 8-15, and some have had bones broken, others have dropped out of school or become deeply depressed. Over half say they have considered suicide. We know from the headlines that some succeed. Our Zap workshops teach them practical skills for turning the bullying around, which is successful in 80% of the cases. We work with children from every location, every background, and recently have developed new techniques in bringing our message to children with special needs who are, unfortunately, often the target of bullies.
Please note Virgin Money Giving isn't responsible for the content fundraisers post on their pages, but if you see something you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please let us know and we'll look into it.
Nisla's Marathon Mission
We are running the London Marathon - please sponsor us.
In our attempt to make 2012 our most memorable year so far, on April 22nd 2012 we will both be running the London marathon. Unbelievable as this may sound (and some might say slightly ludicrous), it’s happening and we are very excited… and just a little bit scared.
We are preparing to do all the training and then run the 26.2 miles on the day. Yes – 26.2 miles! BUT to help us through all this we need your support. We need you to show your appreciation of our slightly insane decision and donate some of your hard earned cash to two very deserving charities. Whether it’s £1, £5, £10 or £100 (go on… someone’s got to be a hero) every single pound will be very much appreciated and help us reach our ambitious target of £4000 – which in true ambitious style, of course we’d like to smash.
We are running for two charities that are very important to us.
The Stroke Association provides information, support, treatment and research for people of all ages affected by strokes. We are running on behalf of close friends and family who have been affected first-hand by this condition and supported by the association and it’s good work.
Kidscape is the first charity in the UK established specifically to prevent bullying and child sexual abuse. They provide advice for young people and parents, a helpline, information, anti-bullying training and resources to help keep children safe from harm.
We will be running 26.2 miles on the day, plus miles and miles in training to prepare… so please put your hands in your electronic cyber pockets, dig deep and donate to us and in return we will give you a very tired and sweaty wave on the day!
