OCD Action
OCD Action supports people affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to help change their lives for the better. OCD Action's vision is of a society where OCD is better understood and diagnosed quickly, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information are readily available and where nobody feels ashamed to ask for help.

OCDwalk - Coast to Coast

Tom Clancy

My page:

Hi there, my name is Tom Clancy, 32, and I'm about to embark on another walk - this time following in the footsteps of Wainright - from Coast to Coast - to change the way people think about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - OCD.

I want to raise awareness for what is an extremely misunderstood and misrepresented mental health condition, and to help those who are suffering.

Unfortunately OCD has defined my life for the last 12 years and continues to do so. My twenties - supposedly the best time of a persons life - were characterised by fear, perpetual anxiety, stress, self-doubt, self-hatred, depression. Living with OCD is terrifying. At my lowest, OCD made me question whether life was even worth living. It took this lowest point in 2014/15 for me to realise that I couldn't do this alone anymore and that I needed help - which I recieved through a life-changing course of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) through my local NHS talking service.

Worryingly 10-15 years is actually an average time that it can take people with OCD to find help. Sufferers may be unaware that the mental torture going on inside their head - caused by Intrusive Thoughts and Images - is actually OCD; that it is diagnosable, that other people are experiencing it and that there is help! Sufferers may also be scared to speak out because of the subject matter of their thoughts or because they are afraid of what others may think of them. As someone who suffers from OCD every day, I am concerned about the number of people out there who are suffering alone, in silence. People do not know the truth about OCD.

9 months on from my OCDwalk from John O'Groats to Lands End, I find myself in a place where OCD is negatively impacting my life to the extent that again I feel I need help. I have reached out and joined a 16 week waiting list for a Stage 3 assessment that will hopefully lead to a further course of CBT. OCD is an on going process with no quick fix - and for this reason it is vital that people speak out and find help... is one of the many way in which you can find help and support, and are the charity I will be walking and fundraising for. They are a fantastic, passionate organistaion, committed to 'changing minds nationwide' - improving understanding, diagnosis, treatment, support, information and getting people talking.

Visit for more information about OCD, help and support, my story, information on the charities, ways to follow me on social media, and more.

Please share this information in any way you can and help spread the word about the reality of OCD.

Thank you!
