Aspire
Aspire - supporting people with spinal cord injury. Aspire is a national charity providing practical support, funding and advice to people with spinal cord injuries in the UK and Ireland.
Back Up
Approximately 3 people every day have an accident or injury that results in permanent paralysis through damage to the spinal cord. Despite good medical progress there is still no cure. Paralysis is permanent. Over 40,000 people in the UK have a spinal cord injury (SCI), the majority of whom are wheelchair users. The Back-Up Trust is a small, dynamic and professional charity that runs a range of services for people with SCI as well as their friends, family and volunteers to encourage independence, self-confidence and motivation following a life changing injury.

2011: Broken back...

2012: Fighting back...

WE DID IT!!!!!!

8 MARATHONS IN 8 DAYS COMPLETED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

The Challenge:

Ever thought about running a marathon? How about eight marathons? How about eight marathons over eight consecutive days? …No?

This team has!

The team will run approximately 220 miles from Paris to London, starting with the Paris Marathon and ending outside Buckingham Palace in the Virgin London Marathon. That equates to more than eight full marathons in eight days.

Why?

Always a really active person, Vicky had a Gap Year after University and went rock climbing in Patagonia in February 2011. Whilst there, she had an accident – a rock fell onto her back, cutting 2 inches deep and breaking three vertebrae. Fortunately, two Doctors and an ER nurse were in the vicinity and she couldn’t have been luckier despite being in the remote location of Cochamo Valley in Chile. After a lengthy recovery period and a lot of hard work she is now fit again and only left with a scar and a good story to tell – blood, stretcher through the jungle, helicopter evacuation and a foreign hospital, what more could you ask for?! Ultimately, Vicky was lucky to survive, let alone be walking and now running.

In order to help those who were far less lucky than Vicky, the girls are going to fundraise for Aspire and Back Up, charities that help those with Spinal Injuries.
