London Marathon - Down's Syndrome Association

Fundraiser:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PaulCORRIGAN

In 2008 in my wisdom I decided to run the New York City Marathon. Upon limping over the finishing line in a time in excess of four and a half hours I said to myself, “never again”.

Time is a healer and as Frank Shorter – the 1972 Olympic Marathon Gold Medallist once said:

“You have to forget your last marathon before you embark on another.  Your mind can’t know what’s coming!”

I have been fortunate to be one of the select few to be awarded a Golden Bond place running for the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) in their 40th anniversary year.

The Down’s Syndrome Association is particularly close to the heart of my family and I as my step daughter, Phoebe (as pictured) has Down’s Syndrome.

My intention is to raise donations for the Association to assist children with this genetic condition.  It will also please Phoebe to again see me suffering after pounding the 26.2 mile marathon course (only kidding).

Around one in every one thousand babies born has Down’s Syndrome.  It is caused by the presence of a extra chromosome.  People with Down’s Syndrome can often lead semi independent adult lives but may need a little extra help to achieve their full potential.  There are currently around sixty thousand people in the United Kingdom with the syndrome.

The Association is inspiring to many and any pledge that you can make would be gratefully accepted by the Association and I.

Whilst I appreciate that in these tough economic times the making of donations is difficult, any gift no matter how small would be gratefully appreciated.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Down's Syndrome Association. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

I thank you for all your support and for any donations.

Paul
