Charity

Epilepsy Research UK
Epilepsy Research UK is the only national charity exclusively dedicated to research into epilepsy. Over 400,000 people in the UK have epilepsy. Epilepsy can take many forms from a momentary blank spell to a dramatic major convulsion. Even with control of seizures, the quality of life for people with epilepsy can be unpredictable and restricted. However, new research offers the very real possibility of developing therapies that could prevent these deaths and transform the lives of those affected. Developments in drug therapy and medical scanning, along with major breakthroughs in the study of the human genome, mean that great progress has been made in understanding the causes of epilepsy in recent years. Even greater advances will be made in the coming years and our research will be at the forefront of developments to control, and perhaps even cure, epilepsy. By supporting Epilepsy Research UK you could make a real difference to the lives of thousands of people.

In March we are trekking to Kala Patthar which, at a height of  5,545 metres (18,192 ft), is a peak below Mount Everest on the Nepalese side, on our route to Base Camp. The Prayer Flag Expedition aims to raise money and awareness for our chosen charity - Epilepsy Research UK.

We are in contact with the Guinness Book of Records and our aim is to establish a world record for the longest string of prayer flags! Please join us in our world record attempt by sponsoring one or more prayer flags. Every flag you sponsor will be hung from the summit of Kala Patthar over looking Everest, the highest place in the world. This is a unique opportunity for you to participate in a world record attempt, to support Epilepsy Research UK in bring hope to over 450,000 epilepsy suffers in the UK, to have your own prayer flag(s) hoisted to the heavens in this truly magical place and for your thoughts and prayers to be carried on the wind to promote peace, harmony and happiness in this troubled world.

Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, happiness and wisdom. The flags do not convey prayers to the 'gods', but with the natural energy of the wind they generate peace, happiness and good fortune among all living things.Prayer flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colours which represent the elements - blue for sky and space, white for air and wind, red for fire, green for water and white symbolizing earth. If you would like to sponsor an individual flag, please feel free to indicate your colour preference.

We suggest a donation of £5 for a string of five flags or £1 for an individual flag.  You can sponsor as many flags as you wish. If you confirm with your donation we will transfer any personal messages you would like on to your flags.

All the team members are paying for the trek themselves and we shall be providing the flags to ensure that our chosen charity Epilepsy Research UK receives 100% of the donations.

We shall be very grateful if you feel able to forward on this web page to any of your family, friends and colleagues who may wish to join us. Thank you so much for your support
