Charities

Macmillan Cancer Support
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer. We are a charity registered in England and Wales (261017), Scotland (SCO39907) and the Isle of Man (604).
Prostate Cancer UK
Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men and provide vital information. We find answers by funding research into causes and treatments. And we lead change, raising the profile of the disease and improving care. We believe that men deserve better.

Pedal to Poitiers - Le Mille du Rugby

Fundraisers:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ptp1000

Hi, thanks for visiting our page.

We are attempting to ride 1000km in 7 days in memory of Michael Smythe (Matt's Dad) who lost his life to prostate cancer in September 2015.

We are fundraising in order to help:

Beat this terrible disease - one man dies every HOUR from Prostate Cancer in the UK, that's more than 10,800 men each year.

Raise awareness - it is the most common cancer in men, 130 men are diagnosed every DAY

Those currently living with it - over 330,000 men are living with and after Prostate Cancer

The Challenge

Mike was a rugby man all his life, he loved playing and watching the game.

With this in mind we are going to attempt to visit some of the significant places in his rugby life, by bicycle. (And possibly have a few beers along the way)

We begin in South Manchester on the 4th March, where we'll visit his (and a couple of ours') school, St Ambrose College, then on to Broughton Park and Sale RUFCs. We then head south for a couple of days to Richmond RUFC in London, and then finally onwards to a channel crossing and the finish line of Stade Poitevin in Poitiers, France, where he played for a season.

We will be covering around 140-150km (80-85miles) per day, and a total of just over 1000km.

Our aim is to be in Poitiers the Saturday after we begin, in order to watch Stade Poitevins fixture that weekend.

Your contribution will make a real difference and motivate us during both training and the challenge itself.

Thanks again for visiting our page and any donation at all can help us make a difference.
