Hi, thanks for visiting our page.

After a difficult year, Michelle and I wanted to do something to help others who may find themselves in a similar situation. We chose to raise money and in turn raise awareness of potentially life threatening blood clots through Thrombosis UK by entering the Henley 10k (which Michelle and I are training for now). Every 6 seconds a person dies from a VTE globally. Its what people call the silent killer and much more research and awareness amongst the medical profession is needed.

Last year November 2015, we nearly lost Michelle. She suffered multiple pulmonary embolisms on both lungs and was sent home from hospital on a weekend, as they misdiagnosed her. I returned her to A&E first thing Monday morning after her breathing became dangerously shallow and painful, she was at this point very poorly but a CT scan was denied. It was after being sent home again Monday evening things became quite apparent Michelle was in trouble. I rushed her back down to the hospital Tuesday when she collapsed and a CT scan was ordered and was found to be multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. It was at this moment our world as we know it changed forever. Michelle was one of the lucky ones to survive, but it is a long road to recovery, we are told she will never recover fully physically or mentally, but we are working towards a place of stability and being able to manage the fall out of such an event. This is work in progress!

We feel the reason they missed this is that Michelle was fit, active, young (ish!) she hadn’t endured recent operation, or long flight, and in fact she never sits still! So none of the usual boxes were ticked, but she struggled to breath and she was in severe pain on breathing in and eventually collapsed and lucky to be here at all. Michelle had an unprovoked series of pulmonary embolisms, which nearly claimed her life. She went from ok to coming out of hospital and not being able to walk up the stairs or across the kitchen. It was the start of a long recovery, which we are still in the process of. Initially she couldn’t drive, walk, read and her cognitive function was virtually non-existent. Although she is driving now and always smiling! Her full cognitive function is still very much work in progress!

We were unaware of the complexities and the seriousness of this condition, in fact we were unaware of this condition at all and knew nothing about it. We need to raise awareness so health professionals and the people recognise the symptoms quickly as the quicker you act may just save someone’s life.

Please see http://www.thrombosisuk.org/home.php for information

It can happen to ANYONE from young, athletes to the elderly.

Michelle is on blood thinners for life due to the unprovoked Pulmonary Embolisms and now has AFib (heart), which has had some initial teething problems, and an emergency blood transfusion! Michelle has recently been diagnosed with M.E(Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), so we are currently navigating our way around a new way of living! Michelle reckons there is always a way around everything! (can be a worry sometimes!). We have thanked our lucky stars twice this year for letting us keep Michelle and we would really appreciate your support in helping us raise as much as we can for Thrombosis UK so they can continue their vital work.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your much needed support.
