Ovarian Cancer Action - Ovarian Cancer Action is the leading ovarian cancer charity in the UK. Ovarian Cancer Action funds research into ovarian cancer, raises awareness of the disease and gives a voice to people affected by it. Ovarian cancer kills 12 women a day in the UK, and survival rates are low at 40%, compared to 80% for breast cancer. We urgently need to raise £10million for the new Ovarian Cancer Action research centre, at Imperial College London, the UK’s first ever research facility entirely dedicated to ovarian cancer. Thanks to a large increase in research spending on breast cancer, survival rates have increased by over 20% in the last decade. Ovarian Cancer Action believes that, with the same input, we can make a similar impact on ovarian cancer.

2012 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall.

Job done! What a great day. Finished at 3 hours 38 minutes, slightly above my latest pledge but still not bad I think.

Thanks for everybody's support, it was amazing and a good way to remember the most amazing sister and person in the world.

What an amazing few weeks it has been. The pain at the loss is now been replaced by the pain at missing her voice, but everyone's support has been overwhelming. I have no doubts now i will reach the target and am looking forward to doing this for her and for everyone that comes after. 

I am revising my time down to 3h30mins, always up for a challenge and want to work hard for this.

When there is nothing more that can be done for someone you love it is time to do it for others. Thanks for helping me raise funds for Ovarian Cancer Action and finding better screening and treatment options for all the women in your life.

Ida left this world on the 4th of February 2012 after nearly five years of battle with the disease. She knew about the run and wanted to be here with me at the end, but it was not to be. She was an inspiration and a true fighter and I miss her every minute of every day. She was my sister and my best friend. She was 37 years old. 

I am aiming to run the race in under 3h39m unless my knees buckle (which is possible) and any money you give will help me go that little bit faster.
