The RAF Association
The RAF Association is dedicated to supporting serving and former RAF personnel and their families. Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back onto his feet, a young daughter missing her parent away on overseas operations or a WWII veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, we are there to help. Membership of the RAF Association offers a wide range of benefits for all those with an interest in supporting our aims. It is also a membership organisation. With around 70,000 members and 500 branches in the United Kingdom, throughout Europe and further afield, membership offers a wide range of benefits for serving or former RAF personnel and those with an interest in aviation.

Red Arrows Marathon Attempt

Fundraisers:
Red Arrows

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/reds

The Red Arrows will swap their famous red flying suits for red running kits when they take part in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for the vital work of the RAF Association (RAFA).

The Red Arrows' marathon team includes all nine Red Arrows display pilots, Red 10 and other members of the Red Arrows support team. Remaining close to the family values of RAFA, some of the wives/partners of the pilots will also be running.

The team hopes to raise around £40,000 for RAFA which provides friendship, help and support for past and present members of the Royal Air Force and their families.

The Marathon will take place on 25 April, 2010 and the Reds are aiming to begin the race in formation – providing quite a visual spectacle!

Their training for the event has now begun in earnest. Red 1, Squadron Leader Ben Murphy, Officer Commanding and Team Leader of the Red Arrows, said:

“We are extremely proud to be running the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for RAFA. All Red Arrows pilots have served on operations, including Iraq and Afghanistan, and so recognise the vital work and enormous support that RAFA provides for personnel and their families.”
