Charities

Save the Children
Save the Children does whatever it takes, every day and in times of crisis, transforming children’s lives and the future we share.
Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
Mind
Mind has been speaking out for better mental health for 60 years and is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. At Mind, we work for a better life for everyone with experience of mental or emotional distress.
The Hypermobility Syndromes Association
The HMSA aims to provide support and information to those affected by the Syndrome and to promote knowledge and understanding within the medical community and the public at large. We hope to assist sufferers to come to terms with the HMS and the distress that it can cause. The severity of the effects of HMS varies with the individual: some have few symptoms others are severely affected. HMS is an 'invisible illness' and because of this we can look well to the outside world but are often in severe pain. Moreover the nature of hypermobile joints combined with frail tissues means that we are prone to injury when performing simple everyday tasks. This opens us to skepticism, particularly by those in the medical profession who know little about HMS. The pain, stress and frustration can lead to depression: thus depression can often be mistaken as the cause of the illness, not a result of it.
Llamau Limited
Imagine having nowhere to live? Where would you go? Who would help you? Today, in Wales, hundreds of young people and women are homeless, frightened and alone. Your donation will help Llamau continue to provide life changing mental health support, safe accommodation, learning & apprenticeship opportunities and a brighter future for those in need.

Run Big Year

Fundraiser:

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/runbigyear

What is Run Big Year? It's a big year with running. It's running big over a year. It's a running year with, er, added bigness! #RunBigYear

Why is it a big year? It's a big year because it's probably going to run for a bit more than a year. It's a big year because it includes a milestone birthday for me (shhh - enough said). More importantly it's a big year as I want to raise at least £1000 to be split between 5 wonderful charities.

Why is it running big? I'll be running big by running further than ever before, hopefully culminating in my first full marathon. I'll also be aiming to set new personal bests in the races that I run. I'll be running races I've never run before and setting myself challenges as I go. If you don't think that's running big then you're probably into ultra marathons or something equally ridiculous.

Why is it a running year? This is not just running one event, this is me running several events over a year (and a bit). It will start with the CAVC Cardiff Bay Run on 2 April 2017 and (hopefully) finish with the inaugural Cardiff and Vale Marathon in April 2018. In between these events I'll be doing a number of other running events so that I'll be running the whole (big) year long. Read all about it at https://runbigyear.wordpress.com/

Essentially I'm far too lazy to organise multiple fundraisers so I'm combining all my upcoming events into one big fundraiser. You can donate once or multiple times over the year. All donations will be split between my five chosen charities who are Save the Children, Mind, Cancer Research UK, Llamau and HMSA. If you would prefer to make a donation to one of these charities in particular then please make a donation to them direct. They are all good causes and any money you can spare will be gratefully received.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
