Meningitis Research Foundation
Meningitis Research Foundation is a registered charity established in 1989. With over 15,000 individual members and supporters with personal experience of meningitis and septicaemia, MRF is working towards a world free from meningitis and septicaemia. We aim to achieve this by funding research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, and to improve survival rates and outcomes. We also promote education and awareness to reduce death and disability, and give support to people affected.

Hi, thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Not being content with doing the Great North Run half-marathon in September 2011, we decided to 'go all the way' and enter the London Marathon.

We were lucky enough to secure golden bond places with the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).  This is a charity which is very close to both of our hearts.

Ruth's sister, Anne Fletcher, died in September 2001 after contracting septicaemia.

Ruth wrote an article for the MRF's Book of Experience, which is on their website.  If you would like to read this please visit http://www.meningitis.org/book-of-experience/anne-fletcher-62873

The MRF does invaluable work both in terms of research into meningitis and septicaemia, and by provided support to those affected or bereaved as a result of the diseases.

We have taken up running over recent years as a way of fundraising for the MRF in memory of Anne, who is so missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those of you who know us will be aware that we aren't typically 'sporty' people (in fact our PE teachers may well spit out their coffee if they heard we're running a marathon!!), however all of our training will be well worth it for the sense of achievement we'll gain from this.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

We really appreciate all your support and thank you for your donations.

Love Ruth and Alex x
