ACLT - African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust
The ACLT is a leading Leukaemia charity dedicated to raising awareness of the severe shortage of donors on UK Bone Marrow & Blood registers. We promote, educate and recruit lifesavers especially from Black and ethnic minorities who are seriously under-represented eg 4% bone marrow donors. Established in 1996 by Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis, the parents of former Leukaemia sufferer Daniel De-Gale, the charity provides valuable support to people suffering with blood cancers who face incredible odds in their worldwide search for a donor. Bone marrow donors typically come from the same racial background, 25 years ago, only 550 Black people had ever joined the register. The ACLT has helped boost numbers to approx. 32,000 and found 30 matching donors. Time is running out for many patients as the odds of finding a match are still around ONE in 100,000. Funds raised help our lifesaving work. Be the ONE to make a difference today.
