Marathon for Mityana

Seb Owen

My page:

Hi, thank you for thinking about supporting me run the London Marathon 2015, in support of Mityana Projects Trust. Please read on for 8 great reasons to donate and then give generously!

About the Charity

 1.    Mityana Projects Trust (MPT) runs a series of focussed and highly controlled projects to break the cycle of poverty in the rural Mityana district of Uganda. You can read more about the great work MPT does on their website, here:

2.    MPT projects provide practical and useful help. For example, the Mubende Girls Project: in 2007 MPT gave this organisation some money to buy beds so the girls didn’t have to sleep on the dirt floor. In 2012 MTP gave them some new sewing machines and they have plans for further help in the future.

3.    Projects always start as small-scale pilots before being offered on a wider scale, so funds are only committed to ideas that truly work.

About the Event and Your Donation

 4.    I am not asking you to subsidise a hiking trip through the Andes or a skydiving adventure. The 4+ hours of the marathon and the countless training miles are going to be hellish for me, only made bearable by the thought that your donation will be of so much help to people that desperately need it.

5.    Each charity has to pay an entry fee to secure a London Marathon place. I’ve donated that cost myself to make sure that every penny of your generosity gets to Mityana Projects Trust.

6.    If you are a UK taxpayer, MPT can reclaim Gift Aid, so your £10 donation is worth £12.50 to them.

7.    And if you’re a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim back tax relief from HMRC so a donation worth £25 to the charity will cost you a net of just £15. Everyone’s a winner!

Why I’m Doing a Marathon for Mityana

 8.    Mityana Projects Trust is a charity based close to where we live. There are very tight links between both the church I go to with my daughters and the schools we hope they’ll go to and their counterparts in Mityana. It's an organisation doing fantastic work that we hope to have a long-term association with.

Thank you again for reading, and – on behalf of Mityana Projects Trust – for your generosity.
