The Spitfire Appeal
Help The Spitfire - Appeal by the Friends of the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
We need your support to help us raise £50,000 to conserve and maintain the City’s Spitfire. Some excellent conservation and maintenance work has been completed with the aid of public donations. A concerted effort is now needed to restore the craft to its original appearance, and to display those fantastic design features for which the Spitfire is so famous.
This iconic World War Two aircraft was designed by R.J Mitchell who was born in Staffordshire before man’s first flight. His short but brilliant career as an aircraft designer spanned the most significant years of British aviation.
The Friends of the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery is a registered charity (507834) whose aims are to promote, support, assist and improve Stoke-on-Trent Museums. The Friends are seeking to raise funds to help restore the Spitfire.
Your donations will help with the much needed restoration of the plane and will contribute to a range of related activities which help us care for and exhibit the Spitfire for the benefit of the public. These include research, conservation, interpretation, display and education programmes. If we don't succeed in raising all the money needed, your kind donations will continue to help support programmes of public activities at the museum. All donations to the Spitfire Appeal will be held by the Friends’ registered charity working in partnership with the Spitfire Support Group.
