Hadrians Wall & Etape Caledonia for Macmillan
Hi, thanks for visiting my page.
Myself and Paul want to continue on from the good work we (and Dad) did with the W2W cycle ride 2 years ago. With your help we raised £700 for St Barnabas Hospice in Lincolnshire. This time around we want to help Macmillan as they were also involved in supporting us during Mums illness.
We are going to start in the Lake District at the Roman fort of Glanaventa (near Ravenglass) riding from there to Newcastle Upon Tyne following the ancient system of Roman fortifications. Following on from that we then go up to Scotland to take part in the Etape Caledonia which we are going to push very hard to do well in (and complete).
Hadrians Wall cycle route is 173 miles and the Etape is 81 miles. Hadrians Wall is a similar challenge to last time. The difference this time is that we are doing an extra day to enable is to do the Etape which will be an 81 mile sprint through a total ascent of 6500 feet. That's what's going to make it very very hard. Oh and Paul only has one good arm.
This event will be a particular challenge as Paul was run over whilst on his bike last November. He's due another operation a month before we are due to cycle. The plan is for him to use 2 bikes. One will be specially modified to allow him to ride one handed as his left arm will be pretty useless. The second bike will be his all out racing bike for use on the 2nd stage of the event, the Etape Caledonia. Optimistic but we'll see.
Macmillan provide care and support for both the ill and their families. They do this through funding nurses, providing grants, supporting families, and of course making coffee!
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
