LArche is an international movement that builds Communities with people with learning disabilities. We stand for a world where all belong, where everyone can exercise their gifts. In the UK we provide person centred, individual support and care to adults with learning disabilities. LArche Communities provide a framework of relationships and activities which support the whole person, including their emotional and spiritual needs. This "above and beyond" work not funded by government, ensures people are not isolated and lonely, but secure, happy and able to grow. In a society that puts such a high value on success, LArche Communities are places where people with and without disabilities can take time to explore who they are, not just what they do. Mutual relationships are at the heart of our Communities. We recognise and celebrate the unique value of every person and our need for one another. In the joys and struggles of our daily life together, we strive to be a sign of hope and justice...
This year Rainbow Trust celebrates its 25th anniversary. Founded in 1986, we have now supported thousands of families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. With the help of the families who share their inspirational stories about the difference Rainbow has made to their lives, we have been able to raise our profile and tell more people about the valuable work that we do. From the humble beginnings of two staff and a kitchen table to work from, Rainbow is now a national charity and supports approximately 1000 families across England. Thanks to the dedication and hard-work of staff and volunteers, Rainbow continues to grow year on year and makes progress towards achieving its vision that one day all terminally ill children and their families will have access to a Rainbow carer. To mark this anniversary, Rainbow will be holding special profile raising fundraising activities to make this year our most successful yet.

Steve Coogan's fundraising page
Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I'm fundraising for two charities - L'Arche and Rainbow Trust Children's Charity.
L'ARCHE
My family have been involved with L'Arche for over thirty years. In 1981 my mum and dad took us to visit the original L'Arche Community in France (in an old Volvo 240 with no rear facing seats and a couple of kids in the boot.) It struck me as radical and ordinary all at the same time. What I think L'Arche does brilliantly is to create the same sense of belonging as you get in a family.
Mr brother Kevin was hooked on L'Arche from that very first visit and has worked with L’Arche ever since. He's now working to set up a new project in Manchester.
L'Arche is faith-based but not wishy-washy do-gooder stuff. I'm an atheist, my brother is not but our brotherly love transcends this quibble and because what L'Arche does is so special, it motivates me to shut up and help.
L'Arche is about respecting each individual and defending the rights in everyone, regardless of their level of intellectual ability, to be spiritually and emotionally. It puts people with learning disabilities at the heart of everything they do as equal partners. I also want to prove that I am fitter, stronger and faster than him...
I am passionate about helping L 'Arche because it doesn't have that media friendly emotional power that media charities have. You won't find the tabloids trying to champion adults with learning disabilities. It ain't 'sexy' to use marketing jargon. I want to try and redress the balance a little, not that I'm claiming my brother and I are in any way 'sexy' except in a comfortable middle-aged sort of way.
L'Arche's first house in Manchester is being renovated and converted at the moment. It's in Withington, not far from where I lived when I was a student. We are raising money to ensure it is fully adapted to the needs of wheelchair users. Your support will ensure the success of this refurbishment, but more importantly it will help lay the foundation of this Community in Manchester, where people with profound and multiple disabilities can live fulfilled and fulfilling lives right in the heart of our communities.
RAINBOW TRUST CHILDREN's CHARITY
Rainbow Trust is an important charity which I have helped in the past. When a child has a life threatening or terminal illness, it can be a traumatic experience for the child's family and their needs are often neglected. Rainbow Trust provides practical and emotional support for those families. They work 24 hours a day; 365 days a year and will support families from diagnosis through treatment and even after bereavement. They rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and yet they are able to help around 1,000 families every year. In many ways, of course, I count myself lucky I’ve never needed to use the support provided by the Rainbow Trust but I think it is an very reassuring to live in a society where this kind of support is made available where and when people need it most.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to my chosen charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
