The Parochial Church Council Of The Ecclesiastical Parish Of St Stephen With St Thomas, Shepherd's Bush
St Stephen and St Thomas (with St Michael & St George) in Shepherd's Bush, London. Shepherd's Bush is an exciting place to live with a vibrant and mixed community. St Stephen's is a church that is fluid at the edges and strong in the centre; the diversity of the church membership is one of the distinctive characteristics of the congregation. The church offers a Eucharist with a ministry of healing every Sunday at 10am. The service blends Anglo-catholic liturgy with evangelical preaching and is geared for growth, both outwardly in terms of new members and inwardly in terms of deepening people's faith, knowledge and love of God.

Mission Statement, St Stephen’s Roof Fund:

St Stephen & St Thomas is a Grade II listed church at the heart of Shepherds Bush, built in 1850, an oasis of peace in a busy city and the home of a caring community.

St Stephen’s Church provides

  • A weekly hot meal for 70 homeless people with a film, distribution of clothes and mobile medical assistance.
  • Prayer, pastoral and spiritual support to a broad community of all ages and cultures.
  • A Film Club for elderly people.
  • Mother and toddler groups.
  • Close links to St Stephen’s C of E Primary School.
  • A venue for concerts and plays, school assemblies, meetings, conferences, teaching and rehearsals.
  • A place of worship for other church groups.

Because the Roof is in urgent need of renewal!

  • The slates are 165 years old and are brittle and fragile.
  • The nails holding them have rusted away.
  • Where the slates fall off, there are holes in the roof.
  • Each time a slate is replaced, the adjacent slates also break.
  • The gutters and downpipes are rusted and broken.
  • Rainwater is damaging the internal fabric of the church.
  • Action within two years is critical.

What will the outcome be?

A new insulated roof will

  • ensure the future of St Stephen’s Church
  • improve sustainability
  • maintain the building’s architectural integrity
  • strengthen the church’s presence as a social, visual and spiritual hub for the whole community
