The Mustard Seed Project (kenya)
UK and Kenyan Charity supporting the people of an urban slum area of Mombasa through education of children, young people and women. Giving them the skills and self belief to empower them to develop and regenerate their community and lift them out of poverty. We have opened a school, a computer training centre and have trained 80 women and 20 young people to enable them to set up their own businesses.

My page:

Samuel is a happy 6 year old, is profoundly deaf and lives in a Mombasa slum.  His parents are very poor and although they love Samuel very much they have to choose between food and hearing aids.

Samuel is lucky because he attends Miche Bora Primary School, the school of Mustard Seed Project.  He is making progess but his  teacher, who is also teaching another deaf child knows that he would make so much more progesss if he had hearing aids.

This is where I come in.  I used to work with deaf children in this country and know what a difference hearing aids would make to Samuel.  Imagine how you would feel without hearing and therefore no speech, either to communicate or to access lessons.

I will doing a 10 mile sponsored walk, along with two friends Denise Clarke and Eirene Andrews, from Werrington to Deeping, which is where Mustard Seed's head office is.  I am proud to be able to do something towards such a worthwhile project. Fingers crossed for a nice day!!

30.07.14 Deafness is so isolating - a worthwhile cause!

29.07.14 Blindness cuts us off from things, but deafness cuts us off from people. The problems of deafness are complex, the loss of the most vital stimulus--the sound of the voice that brings language and sets thoughts astir. Helen Keller. A worthy cause Sue.

28.07.14 Well done Sue. That's brilliant
