Charity

The Born Free Foundation Limited
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, founded by Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers following their starring roles in the classic film Born Free. Today, led by their son Will Travers, Born Free takes action worldwide for wild animal welfare and compassionate conservation. From small beginnings, Born Free has grown into a global force for wildlife. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase out zoos and stop captive animal exploitation. Born Free rescues individuals from lives of misery in tiny cages and gives them lifetime care in spacious sanctuaries. Born Free protects threatened species including lions, elephants, tigers, gorillas, wolves, bears, marine turtles and much more in their natural habitat, working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together without conflict. We are mixed group of international runners. For some of us it will be our 1st marathon and for others it is about going longer and going faster. We have set these personal challenges and would like to use the opportunity to contribute something back to the Born Free Foundation.

So our challenges are:

Big talking turned into an ambitious project that demands stamina and determination. In case you want to be a part of this we invite you to contribute to the Born Free Foundation.

This website will be frequently updated with pictures and comments. Thank you for visiting, enjoy!

Our Progress

*************************************************

05 September 12: Thomas finished his first Ironman in Zell am See and we are all happy that we were part of this! As Thomas purs so much effort into his blog, it is time that you have a look: http://thomasswitala.com/

BTW: We cancelled the Graz Marathon due to job issues and as a result of this lack of training (Tim is speaking here). No need to risk something, but I will do another 42,195er...

25 June 12: We are happy to report that both our team members, Thomas and Reka, finished the first edition of the Mozart100 run. Minor injuries such as blisters and sore muscles could not wipe of those happy smiles of the runners. Just imagine: You get up in the morning at five and after 13 hrs you are 100km (cross country) further...

Here is a short spot on Austrian television.

04 June 12: Still no blog, and it looks like we will skip on that one. Alma participated in the 25th **** Frauenlauf and mastered the 10km as expected and without injury. And yes, Tim screwed up the registration by not checking the chip number (he is working on that).

What else? Thomas decided to go one step further and registered for his first triathlon, which will be end of August in Zell am See, Salzburg region.

Many thanks to those who still pay a visit and donate. Photos will be updated soon, there seems to be a software problem...

---

Vienna Marathon was completed and all runners are healthy, which is top priority. We finally decided to cancel the Berlin project. Registrations fees seem to raise with the number of participants and Berlin is for a reason beyond our financial limits. Please consider that accomodation and transport are not for free as well.

Anyway, Berlin was changed to Graz. Homeground for one of us, awesome!

In case you want to support us concerning our expenses, please be so kind as to contact us through email. In our soon upcoming blog we will go into details with our direct sponsors who take a lot of our financial burden. Thanks to all of you who sponsor us!

---

We will start a blog soon to keep you all better posted. So far we completed some races (look at Reka!) and it appears that Tel Aviv will see us again. Here is a good video about Tel Aviv's  approximate race course of 2012:

---

Reka, Tim and Thomas participated in the VCM II Half-Marathon on the 19th Feb. We had great weather for the day and where in high spirits for the day

----

Tim and Thomas participated in the VCM I Half-Marathon on the 22nd Jan. Tim's 1st half-marathon. Well done!!!
