Charities

Cerebra
Cerebra is a national charity essentially about people, young people, whose lives are affected by the debilitation of brain injury- whose future can be made brighter with the right intervention and therapy. We raise money to fund groundbreaking research into brain injury and neurological disorders and to operate a network of parents and carers whose lives are affected. We act as a catalyst to provide interaction between professional research and the insight of parents and carers. Every year in the UK approximately 650,000 new babies are born and our research shows that 1 in 40 has a neurological problem. With the help of the public Cerebra can continue to offer its much needed services.
Tiny Lives Trust
The Tiny Lives Trust is a registered charity that helps to care for premature and sick newborn babies, their mothers and families in the Special Care Baby Unit of the Newcastle Neonatal Service based in Ward 35 of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

In the summer of 2018, I will attempt his latest charity motorbike challenge when he will aim to ride the top of Arctic Alaska, along the notoriously dangerous Dalton Highway, made famous in the documentary TV series ‘Ice Road Truckers’. I will have just 8 days to take on the 2,000 mile ride, with over 800 miles of this being off-road riding. I

I am attempting the challenge in order to raise funds for Newcastle based charity The Tiny Lives Trust, and national brain-injury charity Cerebra, both of which are causes which is very close to his heart. I'm attempting to raise £3,000

In 2014 my daughter Islay was born 6 weeks prematurely and spent time while she was critically ill being cared for at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary on Ward 35 – also known as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). The Tiny Lives Trust helps to care for premature and sick newborn babies, their mothers, and families in SCBU by providing a range of facilities, staff, and equipment.

Cerebra, who have supported my disabled little brother Robbie since 2001, are a unique national charity that strives to improve the lives of children with neurological conditions, through research, information and direct, on-going support.

To complete the ride I will to travel to Alaska to pick up a specially modified off-road Adventure motorcycle to take on the ride and the Dalton highway. ‘The Dalton’ is a 414 mile stretch of mostly gravel road which was designed as a supply road to support the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline. The road is often cited as one of the world most dangerous roads due its remoteness, road quality, and demanding Arctic weather.

Phil Freeman, a veteran of 10+ rides up the Dalton and Alaskan native describes the ride. "Every year motorcyclists are killed on the Dalton Highway. There are relatively no places to stop along the way: no gas, no convenient stores, no McDonalds. There are stretches of up to 245 miles without gas. On a good day, you can ride it wide open. On a bad day, you can go home in a helicopter. You are literally riding through pristine wilderness.  Welcome to the food chain."

You can follow my preparations and progress on my blog www.arcticride.blogspot.com Facebook & Twitter.

As part of my fundraising I also completed the Great North Run in September 2017 to raise funds for The Tiny Lives Trust. I finished in 2 hours 27 minutes. Thank you for all the support and funds donated for the race.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
