Catch the Sun

Widehorizons Catch the Sun Adventure Challenge will be the ultimate alternative triathlon; cycling, kayaking and trekking through the Berwyn Mountains in Wales before the sun sets on the 26th May. The challenge will include 37km of cycling, 2 hrs of canoeing and 24kms of trekking, all to be completed in one day! Through taking part in this event your team of five will be providing many children and young people with their very own adventure, with each team being set a fundraising target of £3000 for Widehorizons Outdoor Education Trust. We are a charity focussed on the delivery of inspirational, high-quality outdoor adventure learning experiences to disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. Widehorizons inspires over 30,000 children a year with adventurous activities, delivered at our six in England and Wales. With 4 in 10 children in London living in poverty we believe that it is important that every child is given the opportunity to experience adventure learning throughout their education If you can help, donate now to ensure that thousands of children will get the adventure and outdoor learning opportunities in their lives that they deserve.

We did it!! And won the great prize as the team who caught most of the sun.. leaving at 5.09am we arrived at Brynty 20.45, just half an hour before sunset! Our official event time was sub 14 hours..well 13.58.

37km Bike Ride up and over two of the highest roads in Wales was amazing..Mike was one of only four participants who did not to get off his bike over the two passes, there is life in the old dog yet (Leigh did too!)

2hrs of Canoeing around Lake Vernwy, we didn't sink! Leigh has fallen in love canoeing, vowing never to do it again

The 24km Trek across the Berwyns was epic, not just sunny and hot there was a 50mph wind to contend with! John completed with relief knowing that he hadn't got the Penny family lost! Mary took it all in her stride, but can't stride any more, but she can bask in the glory of the Alison Hargreaves award for the only female to complete the whole event. Joe eat his way across the mountains and apparently is still eating. And last Trish, the youngest competitor at heart, what a star, strolled to the finish with energy to spare!

All money raised from the event will go towards Widehorizons charity, which believes that every child should be given the opportunity to experience adventure throughout their education. So by supporting us with this event you will be ensuring that many more children have the opportunity to use adventure to build confidence, self esteem and communication skills.
