Charities
The National Star College is a specialist College where students with complex disabilities are equipped and empowered to shape their future and achieve success. We are a caring community sharing knowledge, respect and experience; a place overflowing with a passion for life and learning; and a place that reaches beyond all expectations.
We save threatened rainforest and wilderness around the world, working with local NGOs to purchase land and create permanent reserve areas. Since its foundation in 1989 World Land Trust has helped to protect over 500,000 acres of the world's wild places against the pressure of expanding human agriculture and population.
Winston’s Wish is a national charity that helps bereaved children and young people rebuild their lives after the death of an important person in their life. Every year we help over 30,000 children, young people and their families through practical support and guidance to families, professionals and anyone concerned about a grieving child. We advocate that all bereaved children need to be allowed and given the opportunity to grieve so that they can maintain a bond with the person who has died and regain control of their lives. In doing so, we aim to help them to understand and positively manage their grief, enabling them to move forward with their life with hope. Our Vision is a world where all bereaved children receive the support they need to achieve their full potential. Your support will help us to achieve this.

Three Peaks with a Twist
We propose to take on three challenges in the next year which we will fund ourselves in order that all the money raised can be split between our 3 chosen charities; The National Star College, The World Land Trust and Winstons Wish.
We have named the challenge the 'Three Peaks with a Twist'.
Our first challenge will be Scafell Pike the highest peak in England at 913m (2,995ft) which we intend to scale in fancy dress (the more observant amongst you may notice a trend developing in this area) and set up a temporary base camp at the summit for a few hours only!! Everyone is welcome to participate in this one -we will need a volunteer film crew and porters!!
Peak number two is Mount Kilamanjaro the highest free standing mountain in the World at 5,895m (19,341ft). We plan to scale this majestic beast of a mountain in February during the full moon to save on torch batteries for the final ascent!!
Finally in May 2011 we plan to trek almost 175km across the Himalayas to the base camp of the highest mountain in the World....... the one and only Mount Everest at 5,400m (17,500ft)!!
As well as the treks themselves we will also be hosting a series of events of both a small and large scale to raise money for our chosen charities. For more information please see our website www.threepeakswithatwist.co.uk. To avoid peaking too soon we plan to start small and finish big to allow ourselves to acclimatise to the plans ahead of us.
Thank you for reading and supporting our causes
