Hi, thanks for visiting Tim Heming's fundraising page.
So, the plan is to swim 2.4miles in the Thames, bike 112miles through the Chilterns and, once back in Henley, run 26.2miles on September 18 - and raise some funds and awareness of Fairbridge whilst I am at it.
Fairbridge is a charity The Sun/News International has close links with and attempts to give 13-25 year-olds, often disaffected from society, the motivation, self-confidence and skills they need to change their lives.
These kids often come into the office for open days, so we get to see the charity's work first-hand. And it seems especially poignant after a month in which London has been burned and looted.
It is also an alternative approach to the Government's 'throw away the key' stance of locking away thousands of young people in institutions that will turn them into criminals.
I know, in these austere times, a lot of people aren't fans of the 'begging bowl' requests of irritants like me, asking for cash for things they enjoy doing.
I can understand that. So here's the thing. If you do not want to donate any money that's fine. Just by visiting this link it has hopefully raised some awarenes of Fairbridge.
Secondly, News International will match-fund the money raised - so your pound, in this instance, counts DOUBLE.
And thirdly, as the name suggests, I guess this one is a bit of a Challenge. (My legs will probably tell me just how much at around the 30k mark in the marathon).
